How to get a node pointing over to the left to point over to the right and vice versa?

Freemind alternates nodes (L / R). Sometimes I want to move them from L > R or R > L. How do you do: 1. Get text of child nodes to flip over so that they follow the new direction. 2. Stop automatic 'spacing' causing other branches to distance themselves from the newly positioned branch?
