    The only downside is that using the link roundtrip process will create direct shape families which can't be scheduled, edited and won't appear in the Project Browser. But that plays well for my client since they want to protect ther IP on the conent (not that this is neccessarly BIM...)

    Further findings - Linking the same IFC autom,atically also creates a RVT file in the same folder. This RVT file is by orders of magnitude smaller than tyhe file created by directly opening the IFC. Plus, families seem to be preeserved, instances get created.

    We're trying to handle a IFC created by Revit consisting of ca. 90k parts, basically identical copies of 22 families. When trying to re-import the IFC into Revit (a workflow required by our client) the filesize jumps from 60 Mb to 4 Gb, every single part becoming it's own in-place family. Any ideas how to work around this?
