Check to see if you have a program called disks. If you do, you should see your drive there. If you don't see it in you file manager, that means it isn't mounted. Then from the menu in Disks, click mount drive.

I've had the same issue the odd time. uninstalling it and then installing it again fixed the issue.

I found this: What is ALSA driver? The Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) provides kernel driven sound card drivers. It replaces the original Open Sound System (OSS). Besides the sound device drivers, ALSA also bundles a user space driven library for application developers. They can then use those ALSA drivers for high level API development. Was there a recent kernel update? If so, how do I replace the update with the one that was there before?

I have a 2016 Acer Aspire ES1-521 with Peppermint 11 on it. An update took out the sound to my speakers. I have Peppermint 11 installed on an Acer. In the BIOS I see: Set Supervisor Password [Enter] Set User Password [Enter] Set HDD Password {Enter] Password on Boot {Disabled} If you have the same thing, you might do a search for more info about them. These look likely...

... it is not Linux friendly from the comments and conclusions about the Aspire ES1-521. It's fixed. After digging into things like X11 and Xorg I came to the conclusion that the older synaptics driver might work. I was able to find it in the software repository and download it. I learned where to install it but the touchpad still didn't work. After examining other driver configurations, I decided it needed to be configured differently. Of course, I didn't know how to do it, but I had learned enough...

A USB mouse is what I have now: https://imgur.com/a/MrhuK1A The touchpad doesn't work, so brushing it won't have any reaction.

I changed the OS back to Peppermint and it will boot every time in UEFI mode. This will save me from having to change the CMOS battery. I tried the other two drivers for the touchpad, synaptics and evdev. Neither of these made any difference. Then I went into the BIOS and switched the touchpad setting from advanced to basic and tried both of them again. It didn't make any difference this way, either.

My experience is limited on Linux. After re-installing Peppermint, everything worked fine in UEFI mode. I noticed my trackpad wasn't working and I wondered if that had something to do with the OS, so I swapped out Peppermint with Linux-lite. This didn't fix the trackpad issue, and Linux-lite insists on being installed in Legacy mode. I ran across a website that addresses this problem and, one of the videos, shows how to change the CMOS battery. However, it says in the same video that if your system...

I had Peppermint 11 running well using Legacy from the BIOS instead of UEFI. But when the power was off, with a dead battery, it wouldn't boot until I went into the Bios and switched it back to Legacy. So I re-installed the OS using UEFI. It seems to work fine, but I can't use the fingerpad to navigate or click on anything... only the mouse. I checked the mouse-keyboard settings -- everything is okay there. I checked the Bios. There is a setting for Touchpad. It's set for advanced. I switched to...

I made a quick video of the setup I had. Then I saved what few files there were on it. I re-installed Peppermint with UEF and it's mostly working good. But now I don't have the touch pad and can only navigate with a mouse. I'll have to see if i can figure out why.

I wouldn't know if the keep alive battery is replaceable, or how to replace it. If it can be installed in EFI mode, then I would lose the customizing I did since its been installed. OK, thanks. I'll see what I can find out about a battery.

I have Peppermint 11 installed on an Acer Aspire laptop. Everything was working fine but I hadn't started it for a week. The battery is dead, but it works fine when it's plugged in. When I turned it on, I was greeted with the message "No Bootable Device". I had it set to boot using Legacy, but it changed to UEFI. I changed it back and it booted fine. But as soon as it's unplugged for a while it wants to boot again using UEFI. Then I get the message "No Bootable Device" again. I had pressed F10 to...

It sounds like a cool idea, but I had conflict where the USB messed up the bootloader on the host machine. I had some difficulty fixing it. I'm going to shelve this idea until I'm generally more knowledgeable about linux. Thank you!

I'll save the email I got when this was posted.I may come back to it. When I wasn't able to install Peppermint, I tried MX-21 xfce. I had some luck, but then things went south. ~ Thank you!

I still need a link to a tutorial if anyone has one. I've tried several ways and times today and still no luck. Someone told me it would work better if I installed from a DVD, I've wasted two DVR-R disks today trying it. It's starting to look like it can't be done with Peppermint 11.

Thank you. I had the installer formatted for GPT rather than MS-DOS but after my failure of trying to install Elementary 6.1 on the drive first, I decided I'd switch to let the installer wipe the disk and do a clean install. It would setup the partitions it needs, and this would rule out one more potential error (me :-)). The error I was getting with ElementaryOS 6.1 was the same as other people have been getting. It doesn't look like anyone is getting much support for it from the tech people at...

I think I need a tutorial for installing an OS on a pen drive. I've tried to install Peppermint 11 on a 64GB USB-3 pen drive, two times today. Each time, when it gets to 75%, and installing bootloader, it hangs. I've tried searching, but most of the tutorials it shows me in the index, are for putting an .iso on a pen drive. I know how do to this.

I know I've installed Peppermint 11 twice before today, but this time I want to put it on a pen drive. I put the installer on a 4GB pen drive and rebooted. I looked at the first few screens but did not see a choice of where to install the OS, and I certainly don't want to overwrite my hard drive. I want to be able to choose a 64GB USB-3 pen drive, I have installed, but I didn't see any choices. Maybe I didn't go far enough into the install program but I got nervous. I could be wrong, but I have an HP Pavilion that sounds like it might have specs similar to yours. It has 4GB or Ram with a 500GB HDD hard drive. When I bought it 14 years ago it would do this sometimes. It had Windows 7 on it. Later, after upgrading to Windows 10, it would still do it. Then I upgraded to Linux. I've had Linuxmint Cinnamon, Linuxmint XFCE, Q4OS KDE Plasma, MX-21 fluxbox, and now Peppermint 11 installed on it. And it stills does this... Not every time... but fairly often. I've ruled...

This is solved. See bug report here: (Also affects Aspire ES1 - 521. like mine) https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1593943 In the 8th comment, it says: Christopher. I removed myself from the "affects me" list. Was not a bug. In the case of my Acer Aspire the issue was caused by incorrect settings in the BIOS for touch pad legacy support. Changed in linux (Ubuntu): status: Incomplete → Invalid So the steps I took are: 1.Reset 2.Press F2 to enter in BIOS 3.Main 4.Set touchpad as basic...

The article says, "If your output doesn’t look anything like the above, either you’re dealing with a kernel bug or the hardware simply isn’t recognized." I put in the terminal: cat /proc/bus/input/devices | grep -i touchpad -- This didn't return anything.

Mine isn't showing the touchpad, just the mouse. I put the same OS on another laptop I have, which is an HP. It worked fine. The HP is seven years older than the Acer I'm trying to fix now. I ran across a thread on stack exchange. About the same year (2015) and same computer Acer Aspire: https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/244894/touchpad-does-not-work-on-acer-aspire I don't know if any of the ideas listed there would work for me. I noticed my pad wasn't working. I went into mouse and touchpad and turned off the mouse. Naturally the mouse stopped working, but the touchpad wasn't either. I used tab and the arrow keys to navigate the panel and turn the mouse back on. I did, but the mouse still didn't work. So I'm stuck with tab and arrow keys. Thanks for any help you can offer.
