I played some music on conference.allyn.com and it was working well. When I access that server my ping time is 24 ms. The server I created on AWS gives me a ping time of 41ms. I believe this serve is in Oregon What determines the speed of a server, the distance, the computer, the download and the upload speed, the current traffic? Anything else? I understand. Thank you for the update On Fri, Jul 10, 2020, 10:34 PM Gilgongo gilgongojones@users.sourceforge.net wrote: I didn't create a video, I'm afraid. This is because Jamulus is quite rapidly evolving, and video content is hard to keep up to date (the GUI for the server is being update rather a lot in the next release, for example). Thank you very much! On Thu, Jul 9, 2020 at 5:46 AM Vincenzo vdm@users.sourceforge.net wrote: Regarding Macs, it seems that their audio module is well done. Regarding the server ping time, the single most significant factor is the (network-wise) distance between server and each player/singer. So before software optimization, you should find the right hosting site. Fiddling with cloud services makes it easy and cheap to move a server until you find the best place, although it might be not the absolute...

Thank you for this information, I am finding the latency of the mic and headphone out on my Apple laptop to be almost identical to the latency of my external Focusrite audio interface, though I understand not everyone will have the same experience. My issue is creating a server that others can access that has a low ping time. John - did you make a video of how to create a server? Hello, I understand that ping time is a crucial aspect of getting Jamulus to work effectively. While I expect many variables affect ping time, would it be safe to assume the the two main variables are 1) The computer speed and the internet connection speed of each client (each individual musician). 2) The computer speed and internet connection speed of the server (The hub that everyone connects to to communicate).

Fair enough I am willing to help in any way I can. Where I need help is setting up a server. My school set up a server and the ping time is 20 ms which is too slow, the connection is not good Another school down the street set up a server with a ping time of 10ms which works well I am trying to figure out what the difference is in how they set up the server, why one has a ping time of 10 and the other 20ms Thank you, Scott On Wed, Jul 8, 2020 at 10:49 AM Gilgongo gilgongojones@users.sourceforge.net...

While I understand that an audio interface helps to get better sound, I don't understand why an audio interface would reduce latency. Why would the internal mic and internal headphone jack create more latency then an external device? It would seem if anything using the internal mic and internal headphone jack would reduce latency. Thank you in advacne for your patience with this question.

I am in So Cal and want to setup a server. Is there a server expert that can help me? How fast a connection do I need? My current speed is 227 mbps down and 11.32 mbps up
