Thanks for looking into it. Maya can render to EXR and TIFF, among a host of other formats, so it's no problem. Many old projects and users, though, still use IFF and any alternatives to the ancient FCheck are always welcome. I know you said that you're not willing, but just a heads-up that the aforementioned DJVImaging is here on Sourceforge and might be able to provide the library necessary.
