Upon further investigation, it appears I installed the 32-bit version of 3.60, having used the 64-bit version previously. So, I uninstalled 3.60, downloaded the 64-bit installer, re-installed, and all is working swimmingly now. Thank you. File this one under I/O error (Idiot Operator).

FWIW, I'm seeing this exact same issue recently on version 3.58 (64-bit) running Windows 10 (x64) Build 19044. Same symptoms. Also intermittent.

Here's another example of one of a series of half dozen or so moulded bottles and flasks from RIB. While it may be a maker's monogram, RIB's editors have left the text uninterpreted, so I would guess they considered that possibility and dismissed it. Item pictured is RIB 2419.76
