Modern ransomwere wll hunt down connected shares and encrypt them. So unless you have an external backup like Crash Plan you need to re-think your setup.

Hence most of my Shares NFS/SMB are read only. As is my Farther in Laws to protect against this very issue. I transfer files using SCP and a massively over the top 4096 bit key. I have one share that is writable for backups from my machines. This is restricted to one drive so should I get encrypted I can recover.
