Hi Andrea, I am not 100% sure what you mean; have you tried using the tree panel? (https://datacrow.org/docs/grouping-items/). Or do you mean you want to store the groupings you have created? Cheers, Robert

Hi Peter, Not yet, as soon as I release a new version it'll be with the updated install creator package.
I'll have to take a look, I might have to upgrade the package responsible for creating the installer.
I have finally found it. Will be releasing 5.0.3 within the next few weeks. There's an issue with public / local IP setup in Data Crow which results in these kinds of issues.
Hi Karina, If you zip your modules folder (from your Data Crow user directory) I'll have a look. Cheers, Robert
Issue upgrading: cannot remove persistency columns
Fixed in the new version: 5.0.2
Incorrect refreshing of the record count in the database.
Data Crow 5.0.2 - maintenance release
Hi, Ah, sorry - you can email it to me: info@datacrow.org Cheers, Robert
Hi, No the ask is to just send you complete data folder. To share it with me on a place where I can download it from (Google drive, dropbox). I'll then upgrade it for you and send it back. That seemed easiest as I don't know the ins and outs anymore of the upgrade steps of 3.9.14 . Cheers, Robert
Ah, yes. After reworking the import process (and export process) in 5.0 I broke the compatibility towards CSV and XML files generated on older versions. I have my regrets, but that is what it is; yyou cannot import files from older version (pre 5.0).
Hi, Apologies, I thought I replied but, alas, apparently not. The only way forward, as I see it, is to share your complete user folder. I can then upgrade your data (hopefully). Do you have dropbox or something similar? Cheers, Robert
Hi, are these XML and CSV files created on previous versions?
Hi! This will be fixed in the next release (5.0.2) - it's a known issue (for some) unfortunately. Cheers, Robert
Ah, you are stuck in stuff from many of years ago.. erm, I need to think about this. I am away this and next week; do me favor and post here after next week so I do not forget. thanks! I vaguely remember what this was about, this upgrade. oh boy, oh boy, oh boy.
Yup, that's it! :-)
Remove the old installation (after making a backup of it) - just delete it. Then you install / unzip the latest version. Then basically you keep the data folder on there and upgrade as is. BUT, make a backup before you do all this! That's important :-)
Hi, looks like there's a bug in the upgrade process. I'll have to look into this. Raised a new ticket for this: https://sourceforge.net/p/datacrow/tickets/153/
Issue upgrading: cannot remove persistency columns
Hi, Oh, wow, from 3.9.14.. Right, that's going to be a bit of an adventure :) 1. First you need to upgrade to 3.12.5: https://datacrow.org/wp-content/uploads/simple-file-list/datacrow_3_12_5_zipped.zip (I lost this versions distributed original zip files; this one will have to do sorry - no install) 2. Next, you need to go to version 4.1: https://datacrow.org/older-version-of-data-crow/ 3. And lastly you can go to the latest version. Now, this path might lead to errors or issues in which case; just...
Data Crow Server - API not reachable whilst test URL is reporting OK
This will require additional logging to investigate further. I will add this to the next version, it might well be that the actual issue is hidden behind the message you are getting.
Online Music Search
Java not included for zipped version (it is included in the installer version)
Resolved; I have uploaded the zipped version with Java some time ago.
In that case it sounds like a bug - it should not required admin privileges to add / remove pictures. I have create a ticket for this; https://sourceforge.net/p/datacrow/tickets/152/
User with correct privileges cannot add or edit images
Hmmm.. nothing in the logs that help us out to be honest. I would fully have expected that the link would also be blocked if it is not working for the client. Have you tried using the hostname as the server address when starting the server itself? (-ip:<server name>, ie: -ip:WAALS-PC). I really should have named the parameter host instead, but never mind that for now.
Hi, It's a bug I think to be honest. I checked the code and you can only Edit Pictures in case you have the EditPictures permission AND you can edit at least one of the fields of the module.. (or if you are Admin indeed, as you can do anything as admin). Giving permissions to edit an item is not done through the ManageItem plugin, which is misleading I know. You need to go to Module Permissions and make at least one field editable by the user. I think this has been overcomplicated by myself... :-)...
This was fixed in version 5.0.1 - on which version are you?
Hi, There are messages in the log stating that the modules already have been registered (software, movie and another one). I have seen this before where, for example, multiple copies were created by a synchronization app; can you check whether there are 'suspicious' jar files in the modules folder of the user data folder? Alternatively you could zip your settings and modules folder and send these to info@datacrow.org so I can have a better look. Cheers, Robert
That's strange - it's a bit hard from here to see what's wrong. Here's what I would do; zip the entire "old" data crow user dir. Unzip this at the new location and point the Data Crow app to this folder. But that would not explain your current situation; the backup does contain everything. It;s basically a zip file of your entire work set; 1) Are there errors in the log file (data_crow.log)? 2) Are the fields gone; can you find the fields in Settings > Field Settings? Are they enable here.
Hi Carlo, From which version was the backup please? Thanks, Robert
Sorry I phrased my question all wrong; yes they are included. What I meant to ask was did you have the modules option ticked when you did a restore?
Hi, Did you make sure to include the modules in the backup? These hold your customisations and are protected when you upgrade. Cheers, Robert
Excellent!

I think that's a great idea; added a ticket https://sourceforge.net/p/datacrow/tickets/150/

Okay - I have uploaded a test version (it's safe, it only contains the fix for you on top of the 5.0.1 version); https://datacrow.org/beta/datacrow_5.0.2_client_zipped+java.zip https://datacrow.org/beta/datacrow_5.0.2_client_zipped.zip https://datacrow.org/beta/datacrow_5.0.2_installer.zip https://datacrow.org/beta/datacrow_5.0.2_server_zipped.zip https://datacrow.org/beta/datacrow_5.0.2_source.zip https://datacrow.org/beta/datacrow_5.0.2_windows_installer.zip Let me know how it goes? :) (please...
Data Crow 5.0.1 has been released
What do you mean by import? XML import, Online Search, CSV Import, upgrade, File Import (MP3, etc)? While it is true that on the upgrade Data Crow tries to protect your original order, it will fail at times. You can then manually adjust the order to your liking. After that the first image added is named picture 1 by Data Crow, second one picture 2, etcetera. The original filenames are not used for sorting nor are they stored in Data Crow.
I need more information; Are you saying that for you in the online search window, the image is not being displayed? Is there any image being displayed or just not the cover? Which online service are you using? Do you have an example of a search that delivers 50+ tracks? Please also check the log (datacrow.log file) for any errors and include these here. Thanks, Robert
Hi Cal, To start off - no, there's no option to go back to the 4.11 functionality. So on the upgrade all pictures have been moved into the pictures list. The benefit being that you no longer have to add specific picture fields. Most found that, including myself, cumbersome. You can now add 50 pictures, a 100 pictures, etc... Data Crow won't complain. The upgrade might have tried to keep the pictures in an order, but it will certainly fail at times. Not to worry though; you can change the order of...
renamed the ticket; I will add a separate package for this.
Java not included for zipped version (it is included in the installer version)
Kind of.. anyway, if you install Data Crow then it also includes Java. I did not include this in the zipped version as it is not applicable for Linux. Hmm... I'll package it separately for Windows, that's probably best.
Suggestions: Dedicated Group-By Presets
Let's face it, this one has been open for so long and looking at what I have still to do, this will not make the cut any time soon.
Observation: Quick Search Terminology Rename
Better suited for the forums to be honest, but; Yes, Data Crow requires a higher version of Java. That is because I need to be able to use the latest and greatest those versions bring as well as that many of the dependencies rely on at least Java 11 being available. It's the lowest possible version I can support. I mean, we're at Java version 21 now. That is not a fault of Data Crow. Oracle decided at some point to no longer deliver newer (past version 8) Java runtime and has left that up to others...
Can't assign data folder
Glad to hear it's fixed! I'll close the ticket. Hope you'll have some fun now with Data Crow :-)
I have been Googling a bit on this and found this page: https://www.studytonight.com/windows/best-ways-to-fix-access-denied-folder-errors-in-windows-10 I think it might be the antivirus being a bit overzealous, which is covered in that article. Hope this helps! Robert
okay, that's the issue right there; even though you have a later version of Java installed, version 8is the default one. if you execute: Java -version on the cmd prompt it will tell you exactly that; it's Java 8 that is being used. It's a matter of uninstalling Java 8 (you dont want it in your system, it's ancient by now). Also, uninstall all other versions of Java and then install the latest one (again). Open a new command prompt after that and run that version command again to check if it is now...
It does sound there is some kind of strange permission issue, have not encountered this before. But... two things we can try; 1. Add 'run as administrator' permissions to the datacrow.exe file. (right-click on the executable and go to compatbility tab - I think that is where that option is sitting. 2. Else, you can also start Data Crow from a command prompt, as a test. Go to the command prompt & navigate to the Data Crow installation folder. From there use the following command to start Data Crow:...
Nothing in there of note. I am bit confused on the details you provided. You mentioned you installed 5.0 a couple of days ago, is that the 5.0 full version or one of the release candidates? I am asking as at the time of the ticket 5.0 was out for just under a day. You can start Data Crow using a different user folder; see the help on my site: https://datacrow.org/docs/starting-data-crow/. You mention that after starting 5.0, you got warning messages about the data folder; not having permissions to...
Can't assign data folder
Let me start by asking; did you make a backup prior to installing the new version? Please attach the data_crow.log file to this ticket as located in your newly chosen data folder.
Thanks! I just realized I forgot to wait for these before releasing. :-) I'll add it for the next release.

Item Importer - order of options
Hi, The order of the options; yes - I'll have a look at that. A new tab is not something I am going to create as there's a complexity involved; there's the option to merge new and old items; it would be simply to much effort to first have a staging areas. Considering other development plans I can't justify spending time on such a feature - sorry. For the image order, yes, that is correct. The importer reads the link entries and adds the pictures in that order. The picture-1 to picture-x fields have...
Cannot access file as entered in file field from web
I am looking for one more simple translation: msgFileCouldNotBeFound=The file could not be found, is not accessible from the server or is invalid
Fixed
Hi, Alas, no. I know this has been open for quite some time but 5.0 is functionally complete. I do intend in adding more functionality to the new web module such as sorting and more comprehensive filtering. Potentially I might add a side panel where you can quickly click on, for example, one of the categories. A bit like a web shop?! What I'll do is create feature tickets after the 5.0 release so we all know what is planned and what is not. Cheers, Robert
