Hello Steven, so sorry I couldn´t reply earlier. There was so much to do in my personal life and accordingly this very topic slipped my mind. Sorry again. Thanks so much for the confirmation. The device you want to save or restore has to be unmounted Yes, that´s clear to me. I think this is achieved by starting either Lubuntu or rescuezilla as a live system. If any of the partitions of the installed system should have been mounted (by default?) we would have to un-mount them first. Thanks also for...

@ Steven Shiau: Hello Steven. We once discussed the topic of helping another person remotely. It was the case of my friend (who lives far away) wanting to make a disk backup of her Lubuntu system and I was to help her (https://sourceforge.net/p/clonezilla/discussion/Clonezilla_live/thread/51f2ae3d78/ ). Sadly it turned out I couldn´t ssh into her system. Probably her router settings (or something else) wouldn´t allow that. As a result of that situation I was looking around a bit for an alternative...

Hi Steven, thank you very much for the confirmation of how things work. I´m always happy to learn something new. O.K. I´ll look after the latest version of clonezilla. Thanks for pointing that out. Yet, as a matter of fact, I´ve just completed my monthly disk backup (still using the wily-version). Thanks a lot for your help and for being so patient with me. Many greetings and keep safe. Rosika

Hi Steven, mystery solved, I guess. I just checked clonezilla´s key by issuing the following command. ssh-keygen -lf /etc/ssh/ssh_host_ecdsa_key.pub After that I shut down clonezilla live and booted it anew. I repeated the procedure and a completely different key was assigned to it. So to answer my own question: Is it possible that the fingerprint for the ECDSA key sent by clonezilla may be different each time I try to ssh into it? Yes, it seems so. And this fact should account for the behaviour...

Thanks, Steven, for the confirmation of how screen works. As far as tmux is concerned: when trying to start it bash says: "tmux: command not found". dpkg -l | grep tmux didn´t return anything but dpkg -l | grep screen did. screen is installed as version 4.3.1-2 Perhaps that´s because I´m using the VM-image based on 20160210-wily-amd64.iso. And perhaps tmux wasn´t included back then? Nevertheless screen works just fine and I´m pleased to be able to use it. :) BTW: Every time I try to ssh into clonezilla...

Hi Steven, thanks so much for your help. It works. That´s really great. :) Well, tmux isn´t installed by default as it seems but screen definitively is. So I start screen and after seeing a bit of introductory text I´m in the screen session. After that I startedsudo clonezilla and I enetred the TUI mode. From here I can proceed the way I´m accustomed to. Because I regularly back up my own system once a month (disk-backup). Wonderful. :) Am I right in assuming "screen" is useful this way? I log in...

Hi Steven, thanks a lot for your help and the link. I finally could bring clonezilla live (running in a VM) to work the way I wanted. I achieved it with the help of virt-manager. The topic seems to be NAT-related. I first "converted" the clonezilla iso -image to an ".img" format (nothing to convert really): cp clonezilla-live-20160210-wily-amd64.iso ./clonezilla.img Then I created a new VM from within virt-manager using this image file. In virt-manager NAT is the default (other options availabe as...
