I stopped the the wipe at 49% because the throughput came down to about 80k and the time estimate was still at about 7 hours. I have a hard time believing that 5 drives i have all are spent and that bad but i put a known working young drive with nearly no use in it and the issue was not present. My suspect that that i have 5 drives that are all trashed. No thread or topic i could find explained what the issue is. After talking with some I.T. friends they all said the same thing, drives are trashed...
WHY IS IT TAKING FOREVER dban is going insanely slow and I did as much searching and reading and can't come up with a reason why it’s going so slow. 2tb 1 pass wipe says 8 hours. A 3 pass standard says 103 hours and keeps creeping higher the longer it goes. Everything I find online and here all suggest that it should take an hour or up to 3 for a single pass. I found a thread about this issue but it was from 2010 and did not pertain to what’s happening. TLDR: 133,817KB/s throughput and a Load Averages:...
At the time of posting this i noticed that even the single wipe slowly increases its time estimate as it progresses. When i started it said 8 hours, now it says 7:52 at 10%
dban runs increadably slow WHY? 103 hours for 3 passes 8 hours for 1 blanking
