There are two versions on the same download. To use G4L on a CD to backup drive to drive, bit for bit, which one do I want? I"m almost certain it's G4L V062, 50.3MB , but I need to be SURE. Please advise...

THANKS for the replies, I'm beginning to feel more comfortable. I'll get Rescuezilla set up in the next couple of days on a DVD and give it a try for a straight clone backup as I described before. BTW, is there a full set of instructions / manual anywhere ? -----Original Message----- From: Rescuezilla rescuezilla@users.sourceforge.net To: [rescuezilla:discussion] discussion@discussion.rescuezilla.p.re.sourceforge.net Sent: Mon, May 23, 2022 7:34 am Subject: [rescuezilla:discussion] Full clone copy...

I'm trying to very carefully wrap my head around this process - I lost a backup once some time ago by screwing up this type of thing, so I'm REALLY careful with it. When the partition is shrunk, does it simply get truncated? If so, how can one be sure it's not killing important data? Or is data in the "killed" area automatically moved to a safe area beforehand? Or must I move it somehow ?!? How can I tell what is the maximum amount, OR minimum required amount, to "cut" from the original partition?...

    1) My full current intention is to back up the SSD regularly by Clone process to a slightly larger rotating hard disk, allowing me to boot from that cloned drive just as though it was the original drive. Then when needed, restore to SSD from the backup on the target rotating hard drive. My presumption is that since the backup on the target hard disk drive was done by the clone process, even though the target drive is slightly larger physically, it will "look like" an exact match of the source drive,...

Is it possible to make a complete bootable clone from a bootable source disk straight (one pass) to the target disk? If so, will this still work from an SSD that is slightly smaller than the target regular rotating hard drive? I just want a bootable copy,, no problem is some space is lost on the target as long as it boots and runs.

I found the error - it was not connected with g4l at all. I attempted to delete my post, but was not successful, so I put a short "Disregard" note in place. It was a bad connection to the target drive. Please accept my apologies for the confusion. -----Original Message----- From: Michael D. Disregard / Delete - I found the problem, and it's not related to g4l.
