Hi Andy, Sorry - me again. I have finally managed to get V21a installed on a Mac Mini that I use in the shack. There is one small issue I would like to check with you; during the boot it throws up an error coretemp coretemp.0: Errata AE18 not fixed, update BIOS or microcode of the CPU! coretemp coretemp.1: Errata AE18 not fixed, update BIOS or microcode of the CPU! I found this thread that seems to offer the solution: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1239544 But I'm not a Linux expert, so...
HI Andy, Thanks for the reply. Much appreciated. At the moment, I do not have access to a DVD writer, so can't create an install disc for V21. I need to create a bootable version on a USB drive instead. Has anyone posted a file set for this anywhere? (As I understand it, the current iso file is not configured to run on a usb stick - or am I wrong there? Certainly, I have not succeeded in making one.) Or is it possible to just replace some files on another distro usb stick with the V21 iso? (I read...
Hi Andy, I have been happily running V20 (I think) but wanted to update cqrlog to the latest version 2.2 and it seemed to need the Ubuntu 16.04 version. (Having tried adding repos and doing the usual apt-get upgrade stuff to no avail) So I read that 'sudo do-release upgrade' will update a distro to the newer version. Did that and it seems to have worked ok - I am now on the Ubuntu 16.04 variant. So far so good. However, on the network interface, although I can see an IP address, I have no Interenet...
Hi Andy, Ok, had a heck of a faff trying to get a USB stick with V20 on it that would boot (I'm using a Mac mini for this and it proved to be very fussy about it) and in the end burned a DVD with the iso and ran it from there (sooo much slower). Anyhow, same 'fatal grub error' occurred, but this time I did have a /target directory and followed the README FIRST instructions. (Incidentally, the 'continue testing' and 'installation crashed' windows that appear after choosing to continue without boot...
It's the 32-bit version.
update..... Using a CD I had lying around, I have installed a copy of Lubuntu along side V20. This now does give me a GRUB menu and I can launch Lubuntu ok, but choosing the Ubuntu 14.04 option does not work. It looks like it tries to start, but I am left with a black screen.
Hi Andy, I've also hit problems getting GRUB installed. I let it install to the entire disk, no fancy stuff. (it did have EFI on it before, so maybe that's casued a problem) At the end it said - executing 'update-grub' failed. So as per instructions, I let it finish without installing a boot loader. Opened Terminal and tried the killall ubiquity instruction, but it returned 'no process found' Also df -h showed no /target On boot up now i just have the grub propmt. Any suggestins? Thanks, Ralph S...
