Tried and failed with OpenJDK, found this ticket. https://sourceforge.net/p/kmttg/tickets/67/ There should probably be a caveat to use the Oracle JRE/JDK, not OpenJDK unless you can install JavaFX separately.
Got to do a little more testing this morning. The BIOS startup setting, Prefer UEFI, boots into the CloneZilla (EFI?) menu that doesn't have memtest/freedos. THIS mode has the text problem with the 4K HiDPI (UHD) screen. If the BIOS startup setting is set to Prefer Legacy, instead of UEFI, the default boot option gives readable text, as well as lets you run memtest86+. So there may be a bug/difference in the EFI options (vs. the Legacy BIOS) options for CloneZilla grub settings that needs to be applied...
I just got it to boot on a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad P51 using 20170626 alternate stable. To do this I had to: 1. Disable UEFI secure boot in the BIOS security tab 2. In the BIOS Startup tab change from UEFI only to either Legacy or UEFI Preferred. Note: UEFI preferred will boot the alternate (EFI?) menu with no memtest/freedos, etc. items. If you change to Legacy Preferred (or is legacy only?) you can get to Memtest86+ and Freedos. I did NOT have to switch the graphics to resolve the hang at boot....
