That did it! Making sure that the headphones and mic were setup and working BEFORE opening Jamulus made it work!

Will try one more time the USB to make sure it's plugged in and on before starting Jamulus. We've tried changing the output device options in System Preferences/Sound and that has no effect. Will report back

So new install on brand new macbook pro: works great with iphone earbuds with inline mic 3.5mm jack headphones plugin with USB microphone (headphones can hear audio from Youtube whatever) when connect to Jamulus external server, lots of feedback Have tried turning down built-in speakers and mic completely and that eliminates the feedback, but no sounds in Jamulus.
