    Thank you for adding the id. So I still have my prior phone (a Samsung Galaxy model VID/PID 04e8/6860). I tried it out with that next and did not recieve the unknown device error (it is an old phone afterall), however, mtpfs failed in the exact same way. It looks like it is an issue with that.
