    Hi Henry Progress, thank you very much! Only slight oddity is that now it's moved the dimensions and dimension variables into the group, where I wanted to keep them at the root level. I've just tried copying them out again and ended up with two versions of them (one at the root and one in the spmi group). Any thoughts as to how to prevent this? In this case it probably doesn't matter though, so don't worry too much if it's not something you've got a quick answer to! Many thanks Ben

    I'm trying to take a file that has a bunch of variables in it and copy all of them into a group. File structure at the bottom of this email - I am trying to move the variables mean, number, stddev and sumsq into a new group called "spmi", and leave the rest of the file as-is. Looking at the documentation at http://nco.sourceforge.net/nco.html#Flattening-Groups suggests that this should work: ncks -G g1 -g / -v v1 # /v1 -> /g1/v1 ...or for me: ncks -G spmi -g / -v mean,number,stddev,sumsq infile.nc...
