Nothing has changed recently with MComix so my first instinct would be to try looking at your system. Perhaps a hard drive issue or new virus scan that is slowing down disk reads/writes or a new system update causing issues. Do you have a second hard drive you can try to use? I would download an archive to a new hard drive and then try accessing the archive from the secondary hard drive.
