Glass door, hinged
Here is a take with a more realistic flag. ok
Flag hinged on flagpole
Nice one. ok

A tiny additional suggestion if no currency sign/generic currency sign ever were to be implemented. As the above file shows it seems possible to use multiple currencies in one SH3D file. And SH3D behaves nicely. Of course, without calculating totals :-) But to do this, one has to set the alternate currency in preferences (I think) before editing the furniture. And if I want to adjust the £ value for the bucket above, I must make sure the preference is also £, if not furniture price is changed both...
Just an elaboration of the cut/paste and .csv import/export, trick is importing this .csv. 1) the currency+number is not recognised as such, but imports as text, 2) decimal separator and thousands separator may not be the same - typically using EN version of SH3D and another national locale in spreadsheets. No 1) I have not found an easy fix for, espeically with differnt currencies, unless a (quick) text-edit to either separate or remove currency denominator. (Percentages however, are recognised...

The currency symbol in brackets should be ¤ - i.e. html entity curren : currency, just in case the character did not display correctly.
Currency symbol omit / user define
Stylish storage TheTrueMe / Lizzy C
And in a file with embedded elements as a demo - fil < 50 KB, but scales well. ok
And output.
A couple of more elements, to be elaborated (but probably not under feature requests :-) ).
THANK YOU. Actually, my sine experiment was intended for the 3D view, but now it matches rendering equally spaced altitude lines gives just the kind of view I wish for. This will be very useful as I will describe in forum thread 8832. Only thing I miss, is the possibility to set the starting point of the texture. ok Some tests and sky element files (relative links from the adjusted SVG) enclosed.
After posting in forum thread 8832, it dawned on me that for the 3D view it may be as simple as using the sine of the angle to calculate hight of each horizontal line. Being mathematically challenged, this may be totally wrong, but it looks a lot better (in the 3D view - not sure about the rendering). Inkscape compatable: pan360.svg (links to pan360.jpg in same directory) for scaling. pan360.jpg Test rendering using the above as sky texture (svg converted to png). ok

Illustration images. Simple grid and late October rendering at 60° North (sun should be some 18° above the horizon). Does the vertical scale look about right? Just trying to find a good template.

A suggestion from Anton to use neutral lightsource insted of the above Incandescent, same models, but lightsource colour changed from #BB9854 to #EEEEEE. Image lists some of the predefined lightsource colours for reference.
This works beyond expectations.
Smiling when I noticed that this was feature request number seven. Not a big issue, especially when I found out how easy it was to get it to work. But as it comes up again - e.g. forum threads 1550 and 7471 - it was just too tempting to try. Very nice. There is actually a non-existing field that might be useful to some (at least it crossed my mind), namely an optional field for MODEL_PHYSICAL_WEIGHT. Maybe too far fetched, but I see that it is often part of vendor information, and it would have been...
A challenge not to be missed. More bottle-gazing from forum thread 8292
And a beer glass. Just to test. Higher resolution, but I am not sure it is worth it unless you need to focus on the bottles. ok
Some more tests, adding a Bottle of Crémant, still a bit too edgy, but surprisingly good for its size. ok
Mineralwater for testing .mtl settings - and again to see what can be done with a low poly bottle. ok
I took another experimental turn in shrinking further. Mostly reducing number of decimals in the .obj file. It will reduce file size further, but the main idea is that it makes the .obj file more readable and also introduces an inaccuracy for the leaves so they do not all look the same. It appears that rendering is also faster, but that may just be wishful thinking as the number of surfaces are not really reduced.
Thread8309, single tile.
A test with different transparencies and reflection - and added glasses (and a saucepan with g sweethome3d_window_mirror in the .obj file). ok

Thanks A LOT to alaX for explaining the illum approach to create glow in forum thread 8206 which is a better approach. Highest quality rendering with path can take a long time. ok

Quite contagnous and very informative having the .obj file explained. Realising this, it is incridible how much it is possible to shrink a model. A couple of notes before messing with the .obj file. In a model editor (tested with Blender and Sketchup, but some of this will also apply to geometry from SH3D): Group same material before saving and exporting to give a tidier .obj file with fewer groups (and groups in correct order). Sometimes multiple surfaces can be reduced to one. E.g. a window with...
Thanks for taking the time to explain all of this. Much appreciated. Very useful and fun... Models changed accordingly (with s off / s 1 for leaves and branches/trunk respectively. Not only are the files smaller than I thought possible, but a pleasant surprise is how fast the rendering is, and that it does not seem to slow down sh3d work. The attached grove may have visual shortcomings, but an entire forest reuses one tree in different flavors so the .sh3d file is only 140 kB compressed. Red/orange...
Not very successful at shrinking, but as the result is so nice... Made another tree, generic, more oak-like, with even fewer surfaces, which lands me with this compromise for different plants as suggested in forum thread 8110. Made an example in a .sh3d file with different experiments, but the main point is the tree simplified by Puybaret (and possibly the generic one). Anyone wants to improve further on this, please post ...
Thanks, Interesting, I will try that. I had already tried to regroup to avoid the repeated g lines manually (it is a re-export from SH3D after adjusting colors etc). But my off-the-cuff script (or rather my lack of understanding .obj elements) must have messed up, because the file became illegible. Did you edit the file with Blender? If I understand correctly, the number of surfaces will be the same, so in terms of rendering and 3D view performance, the reduced file size will not improve SH3D speed?...
With the help of arbaro and blender, trimmed down tree versions 1) quaking aspen starting with Wolfram Diestel's xml. Like Puybarets version, only simplified a lot more and converted to a birch. At 1071kB uncompressed, less than a third of the size of the original quaking aspen. Of course, not as rich in detal (like my garden birch). 2) a generic tree at < 300 kB uncompressed. A lot fewer surfaces so these models can work better with SH3D on slower computers. ok
Same as the first two above, but a directional spot/downlight added.
Spotlights/downlights that combine lightsource and cutout. Spotlights with lightsource and no cutout so they can be rotated and pointed See forum thread 8003
A downlight with 45° angle to point the light at furniture.
And thread 8003, with Cec's tips on createive use of downlights.
Thread5590 correctly pointed out that checkered texture would not align perfectly. This should work better with a seamless pattern 20×20 cm. Model is smaller (but will render with slightly sharper edges/shadows). ok

Another U-shaped staircase - with cutout/planicon, but also zipped obj/mtl/jpg for 'clean' import. ok
Now that I think back, I ended up with a quick spreadsheet draft that just did rooms because the need was for indoor (room) measurements. If you wish to try, here is a spreadsheet that seemed to work (but I have not tested it). I use gnumeric spreadsheet (because it does not create locale problems, free, fast and Linux/Win - there is a windows binary install under PortableApps). Laser measurements go in the green column and the angles in yellow column must be added manually. A graph will show you...
Interesting. After endless hours running around my home with a non-bluetooth laser measure, I have many times wanted the same. And it recently came up with the Android app (which would be much more useful if it could interface directly with a laser measure to add values) - see thread 7605 And a similar issue in thread 7674: Batch files for loading plans . Here you will see that you can access and edit walls in the Home.xml file - a spreadsheet can be used to create the xml entries for a house. If...
forum thread 7792 Store shelf.
Another take on simple tree. Ref forum thread - trunk and branches by arbaro - very simple foilage wraparound. While arbaro generates leaves too, that makes for large models. Point is to replace foilage with a simple .png. Not as pretty, but much, much lighter on SH3D. Possible to replace with nicer tree for rendering. Zipped size 16,2 KB (foilage only 2,2 KB).
A few more panels / sidings with little or no color. ok
Very nice work.
