While performing some storage clean up and deleting a bunch of very old REDO ISO's I thought; I'll check the forums and see whats going on . Nice one!

@MrOgoleman The MBR of the disk is backed up these lines are from the backup script system("dd if=$src_drive of=$dest/$file.mbr bs=32768 count=1"); system("sfdisk -dx $src_drive > $dest/$file.sfdisk"); print "\t* MBR and partition table of $src_drive saved to $dest\n"; it appears that the MBR is backed up using a default hard coded size. Not sure exactly what would cause your problems - but my are along the lines of 4K disk sectors, EFI / UEFI boot sectors or GPT disks causing the MBR backup routine...

Not sure - but my guess is something to do with EFI / UEFI / SecureBoot getting in the way. I have not tested Redo with Win10 images. I suggest caution

There is no Disk to Disk clone in Redo. If you are looking for a free Linux based Disk to Disk clone application i would suggest CloneZilla : http://clonezilla.org/ I am sure there are other options out there.

Redo images are compressed / split / raw disk images - not file based backups. Backup process is something like Take the raw disk partition Send it to gzip Split the gzip output into ~2Gb chunks Send chunks to disk To recover a file you will either need to restore the entire backup to a new disk or VM and navigate for the files you need. You migth be able to extract the gzip files and pipe them together into one massive file then loop mount that to recover your files. All in all Redo is an image...

REDO will not restore to smaller drive. REDO ( and I assume Clonezilla ) write a file with the size of the source drive as well as block and partition data as part of the backup process. When they restore they try to restore that data to the destination drive. No attempt is made to shrink the volume - as such if the destination drive is smaller than the source the restore will fail.

Hi All, Thanks for the Props MrOgoleman. Life has mostly moved on for me and REDO Backup is now less important to me than it was when I made the updates. I made a few attempts to update REDO based on newer Ubuntu releases but time was against me. From memory the errors I encountered were related to package changes and dependencies between the old REDO base and install script notes and the new version of Ubuntu. Honestly while Clonezilla is a little less user friendly for the average Joe; it is at...
