Hi Michael, Now I've sorted out the options as recommended by Loukas I too have no problem with getting LB to copy the files to a FAT/NTFS drive. But the question is what happens to the missing attributes when the file is copied back to a ext4 drive.
Hi Loukas, Thanks for the prompt and detailed reply. Unfortunately, I can't work out which which format, FAT or NTFS is used, but the directoy does display as smb://ls520d5d5.local/homes/Greg so I gather that confirms it is not ext4, which explains why my file manager shows the Permissions "cannot be determined" for seemingly everything on the NAS (or the other external drive I have attached to the household network). Hi, Naive new user here (also new to Linux Mint!) Since moving to Mint from Windows I purchased a Buffalo LS520D NAS and have begun to try to use it for scheduled backups. After setting up a task to do complete complete backup of my home directory and attempting a dry run it was clear many files would not be duplicated on the NAS box.
