Ctrl and E is not an option...it only works when the chat window has focus.
Yes thanks, Ctrl and E is helpful but might require two hands. A single key or mouse button is better than this change which has no apparent benefits.
Thanks for the update. One issue for me. Moving the CLEAR CHAT button to the chat window menu means two mouse actions instead of one (while playing). I use CLEAR frequently so the occasional new messages are more obvious. I much prefer a clear button than a menu option.
Thanks...up and running now. Pan and new server registrations working and I learnt a little more.

I note both the host name and port are different for each genre? Also, I am seeing a pan control above the fader on the central server but not on my own server. To upgrade my server in Ubuntu I simply did a Git again and followed Simon's instructions in the hope of compiling the new version. I used "git clone https://github.com/corrados/jamulus.git llcon-jamulus". However, using "sudo systemctl status jamulus" it said I was using 3.4.5 a while back. Given my ignorance of Ubuntu I am concerned the...
Thanks Volker. I found how to set the server Genre in the updated documentation at https://github.com/corrados/jamulus/wiki/Command-Line-Options. I understand you are operating separate Cerntral Servers for each genre determined by port number.
How do you set the Genre on Ubuntu?
My list of servers now works as it should...an almost instant display of more than 150 servers all with ping times. To recap, my ISP is VirginMedia in the UK. It appears the older cable modem (superhub 2ac) ignores fragmented packets. Today I installed a new cable modem (hub3) and it works perfectly. The default for the firewall option to "ignore fragmented IP packets" is unchecked so there is nothing that needs changing. I can confirm it works in both modem mode and router mode. From my viewpoint: I have used Windows Server based Jamulus servers on AWS, GCP and my own servers and would recommend Ubuntu instead. Regarding reducing the server limit from 200 to perhaps 150. Firstly, Volker said packets MAY NOT be fragmented anymore...this needs establishing before decisions are made. Secondly, the limit was increased (and a US Central Server set up) for good reasons...to meet demand. Indeed, 200 is currently insufficient. The solution is surely to reduce demand as I suggested and to consider a simple development to deregister dormant servers...or to wait until the virus issue has reduced demand :)

I understand your assumption. Presuming the issue is fragmented packets it appears my SH2ac does not pass these in modem mode (which I use). However, I am still dubious because I get a partial list so some packets are gettimg thru slowly. Perhaps these few packets are not fragmented. I very much hope that the option in the SH3 is to block fragmented packets (and let them thru when in modem mode) rather than to allow fragmented packets and block them in modem mode. I am presuming the SH2ac blocked...
This link may help. There is also other less detailed documentation available that deals with Ubuntu 20.04 and a an updated library. Note, I would omit the line that registers the server with the central server - you want it private. "--centralserver jamulus.fischvolk.de \" https://www.facebook.com/notes/jamulus-online-musicianssingers-jamming/howto-idiots-guide-to-installing-jamulus-server-on-amazon-aws-lightsail-ubuntu-i/507719749802976/
I like your suggestion Volker. As I mentioned previously, it is crazy to encourage people to clog up the two central servers with empty, sometimes poorly operating private servers. I think the software default should be private. I also think the useful documentation created to help people set up a server should omit the central server registration completely. Private servers are not for registering publicaly even if it makes us feel important :) Given that your answer implies that less servers would...
I have proved just it works for one more person using a SH3 (a little more evidence but not conclusive). My best guess is the "ignore fragmented packets" option was added to the SH3 (defaults to on) in case people wanted to keep those packets...the SH2ac has no such option. I also presume that such fragmented packets are passed in modem mode on the SH3 (irrespective of the option setting) but never passed on the SH2ac. I will know more on Friday. It is reasonable to presume other modems etc. and...
I have not fully established that the SH3 works and the SH2ac doesn't because some of my friends have been too slow to repond with test results. However, I have decided to take action on a hunch. I am upgrading from the M200 service to M350 for £5 per month and a Superhub 3 will be here by post on Friday to enable this change. Contacting Virgin is really difficult, after weeks of frustration I arranged this by calling the retention team (I am thinking of leaving for some other reason). I will report...
I also worry as the SH3 had issues at first. There is a link somewhere to request a free upgrade and you can also call the retensions team. However, the upgrades link did not work for me probably because I got a discount. Further, it is even more impossible to get assistance from Virgin by phone, chat opr forum at the moment. I would not hessitate to try the SH3 otherwise, indeed I wanted to ask questions about M350 (I use M200), it talks about being ideal for gamers but I think this is marketing...
A friend has advised me he sees some 150 servers almost instantly (sounds OK). He uses Virgin's M350 service with a SH3 and the fragmented packets option disabled. I wonder if an SH3 is the solution...more evidence required.

Thanks SOR. This may be helpful for the developers but may not. We already know that the modem (SH3) option to "ignore fragmented package" causes an empty list and that not using this option causes the list to populate although there remains a question (soon to be answered) if the population is partial or complete. Whatever the issue is, the solution appears outside of my control and with the ISP or the developers to adopts a different approach to this fundamental function.
I am wondering if some ISPs regard the method of updating ping and musician info as port scanning or otherwise harmful. However, it is interesting some data gets thru and not other data.
Yes, correct.
OK interesting. I know a couple of people with SH3 so will check it out. I will also check identified that with "SimonT who" has Virgin Gigabit and identified that the "fragmented packets" option should be off. Does he get a full or partial list I wonder? I didn't know so many people suffer this issue.
Thanks. I am also using the SuperHub 2ac and tried both modem (my norm) and router mode. I don't understand why a different arrangement would imply an upstream rather than downstream issue, I rather prefer that data is not being received but don't know. I havn't noticed if the same servers are listed but will look in future. I don't think so because when I wait for many minutes the list very slowly continues to populate and not update well. I also have the problem of my own hosted server not being...
I also have problems with the server list and wanted to provide some observations from my testing. When I use the --showallservers switch I instantly see 200 servers but it then takes a few minutes for perhaps only 10-20 todisplay ping times and musicians. When I do not use the switch it also takes several minutes to see more than about 20 servers and I very rarely see more than perhaps 40. Same zone too? I can imagine no reason why ping times should vary and have not experienced this. I would appreciate a link to the 20.04/qt5 instructions.
It appears to me that latency is dealt with in different ways. Jamulus results in break-up. JamKazam results in music being delayed. You might see if Google has any nearer (faster ping) zones. I wonder if Holland is an alternative worth considering. I would avoid Windows Server. I had breakup a couple of times a minute on several platforms due to its design. I ended up on Ubuntu 18:04 which was relatively easy to set up despite my lack of any experience due to insructions here: https://www.faceb...
Jim Yes I also considered it was "left minus 50" rather than "left-50". Either it is wrong or the labelling is ambiguous. When equipment says left it normally means pan left or more left (not less right)! A plus sign would have been more obvious...How about L: 50 and R: 50 where L indicates Left and 50 indicates how much?

When I pan in my sound source (Cubase) the sound moves correctly in my headphone. When I move the Jamulus pan slider (e.g. L-50) it goes the opposite way to that indicated.
Brian, if you can check your computer on a different network and a different computer on your network it may eradicate red-herrings.
Ubuntu on AWS EC2 with 18.04 exists and supports qt4. This is the way to go.
I prefer quality over quantity :) As mentioned before, the primary server list is nearly always full (200 servers). Most of the servers are empty. There are many more servers that performers. Some of the empty servers do not work well (badly hosted). Many people still don't know how to set up a private server and are listed inadvertently. Some people run several servers (perhaps they should run their own central server). It is very difficult to get your own server listed when necessary. The demand...
Perhaps there are still concerns about the Server List being empty or incomplete? I just observed something that may assist those with technical knowledge of the software...and maybe not! I have several Wifi Access Points connected to a single router. I was connected to AP1 and the server list appeared instantly and as normal. I reconnected to AP2 and the server list was empty except for a server I run on the same LAN. After a while a further public server appeared. I then moved to AP3 and again...

Brian, presuming your Central Server Address is set to Default... It was discovered that a Virgin Media Cable Internet Modem setting can cause this issue. This probably applies to other routers. "Block Fragmented IP Packets" should not be checked.
The size of the local and server jitter buffers must depend on both the local and server hardware being used and the network between them. I am pleased these settings worked for you, but they will vary for others. I also avoid auto, sometimes tweaking both local and server up by two clicks from the auto postion. I understand the local is for incoming buffering and the server for incoming to the server from you. Up means more latency, down means more break-up.
Thanks Volker. Surely a public and private server are equally easy to set up, the only difference being that performers need to connect by IP/domain name rather than using the list. My point is that there are too many empty servers unnecessarily clogging up the Central Server List (same in US soon). If many of theswe servers are intended to be private people should be encouraged to switch off the option to list them.

Thanks, yet again! Two minor thoughts: I am unclear about the function of "Enable Small Network Buffers". When is it good to use this and when is it not good? There are often more public servers listed than performers. I imagine many of us choose to run a Jamulus Server for our own band's use and not as a public service. The consequence is the Central Server(s) work unnecessarily hard and can fill up (200 limit). At this time, should the default for "Make My Server Public" be on (encouraging more...

Kevin, changing to stereo in your setup sends your mic to the listener's one ear and the guitar to the other!

Do you definately have Direct Monitor switched off and your own slider unmuted so you only hear yourself via Jamulus? Do you have the Air (new feature) button switched off in case this colours one channel only? Just work on your guitar only for now...is it plugged into channel 1 or 2 and is gain set properly on the 2i2? Is signal showing in Jamulus on the left, right or both channels when set to stereo...I wish to simplify...unless I forgot something I would only expect your guitar to come out of...

Did he select the relevant ASIO driver in Jamulus settings?
It's back.
I can no longer see any servers in the list using four different machines running on two different ISPs. However, I can connect directly to a known private server. Ping to jamulus.fischvolk.de works fine.

Websafe comprises two features but I agree it is unlikely to be that. It will not be easy encouraging a Luddite to double check the facts. It's been sufficiently painful already. :)
Snap :)
I refer to headphones at the receiving end. I cannot comment on how you have your local headphones and direct monitoring set up. Switch to mono and 2 radar buttons will appear under the reverb slider.
My friend has advised me that his issue of "no servers in the list" is resolved. I am told it started working some time after he both switched off both: 1) Virgin Media's (his ISP) "WebSafe" feature in his account 2) "Block Fragmented IP Packets" in his cable modem (router) as suggested by Simon Tomlinson I cannot conclusively confirm his solution but I prefer the second option. I do know it related to his ISP and not his computer as my own computer failed to work on his wifi.
IMHO, you are set to stereo (sending two channels) so your mic is coming out of one earphone and the guitar out of the other. Reverb works on both channels. If you set to mono, both mic and guitar will come out of both earphones and you will see two radar buttons to select which channel the reverb applies to.

Thanks so much for ongoing support of this software during these strange times. I can only contribute helping others and identifying potential issues including a couple of minor ones: 1) The column widths are slightly too narrow (UK English) for "Ping Time" and "Musicians" in the "Connection Setup panel. 2) Spellings: It would be nice if the Location Country field had spaces in the data e.g. "UnitedKingdom" > "United Kingdom" Instrument "Acoutic Guitar" > "Acoustic Guitar" Instrument "Accordeon"...

Thanks Volker and pljones. I cannot find a release note stating the changes in new versions...is there one somewhere?
When I highlight a server and click CONNECT it works fine. When I double click a server to connect, I receive two messages. I'm quite certain it did not do this with 3.4.4
Neither can I now but it occured on 2 separate computers (same network) multiple times directly after upgrading...I wonder if an immediate second auto-reconnect was the issue. Will monitor...thanks.
Just installed 3.4.5 (Windows) and the welcome message is appearing twice on login...is this an issue or something I didn't notice previously? EDIT: the "agree to licence terms" window also appears twice on jamulus.drealm.info

Check the fader labelled "Pan Centre" is in the middle! If this balance/fader control is either fully up or down it will only send the right or left channel. The "Input" lights flash but only one channel is sent! This is a silly problem you can spend ages wasting your time on. The fader might better be labelled Ch1 and Ch2. It is actually useful to balance between your mic and guitar. Another reason the "Input" light flashes but nothing is sent can be when the audio drivers are not set to 16 bit...

EDIT: apparently also works with UM2. Thanks Gilgongo. I do not think this applies to the lack of servers in the list. I understand UDP 22124 needs to be open if running a server and connecting directly. He is not running a server. I also understand that various incoming ports including 22134 (not 22124) seem to connect to a server but again this does not relate to his lack of server list. I intend to check his Cable Modem (router) soon as a next step.
The musician checked the INI, the two parameters were fine, the problem continues. Following Simon's point, I've considered the ports to the best of my ability but don't know how we might Telnet or UDP ping check things to make sure comms are clear on UDP 22124 or otherwise. Remember, we've tried with Firewall off, he can connect directly, we pinged the central server and the Default address is checked. Is UPnP involved? Could there be something in the Virgin Media Cable Modem causing a problem for...
