I have been receiving regular requests about issues when trying to run the code in recent versions of Matlab or about compatibility with Octave. Not having touched the code since 2003 or so, I couldn't really help. But I decided to refresh my coding skills in 2021, and VISTAS seemed like the perfect playground for such plan. The issues were fairly easy to solve (some deprecated syntaxes and other similar minor problems), and VISTAS basic 3.03 now works "out of the box" in Matlab R2021a and Octave...
