https://gitlab.com/tkchia/muefircate/-/issues/4 The mood seems positive, even though it's far from usable. Though if any I wished this was mentioned in the wiki or wherever, because people don't even think there is a hope. p.s. It already is since the resurrection. Though I'm a nobody without much of a skill FWIW.
If anybody's interested in helping btw.. https://github.com/mirh/smartcam/issues/2
FWIW there's an interesting PR pending if you are on W10
I don't know, I have tried the few workarounds and patches suggested, but to no avail (the error has some significant differences aside of the first line). On top of that, I found that this only happens when I have my main database open. If none is opened, or if I try with a dummy one, everything is fine.

FWIW SetLight is alleged to have changed between d3d9 and d3d8 (which from a quick skim online would seem pretty close to dx7). W10 and whatever OP's VM driver is may have taken "undue shortcuts" with translation from older to newer versions.
I think that Microsoft wrote some shim to avoid situations like this, where through semaphores or messages set to a pipe you can ensure that all command are sent to the same thread and processed in proper and safe order. SingleProcAffinity? That should be already included into the normal windows W9x compatibility mode. Btw FWIW I found out people reported a regression in mmioDescend since W7.
