    Hopefully you have a back-up.. the table layout between 5.3 and 6.x are quite different. I also tried to migrate when the 6.0 series came out with similar results.     Shared hosting is possible Leo, but it really depends on your shared host.. you'll need permissions to allow uploads if you want student photos, and depending on the MySQL version you may have to configure different variables (if I recall correction OpenSIS requires case insensitive table names).
