Update from 4 days ago. I was totally unsuccessful at getting a windows installation disk to be read because all boot drive options were erroneously and foolishly deleted. So, I thought, why don't I try DBAN again? Sure enough, the computer read that disk! Of course, although the drive was wiped, it will still take many many hours to see the outcome. I am just posting this in the event that someone else made the same series of errors as I did.
It all started with my 96 year old dad's asus laptop. As I updated windows for him after years of non use, it asked for the password. Fast forward 5 days and still unable to figure out his password. So I used DBAN to completely wipe the drive. So far so good. I created a windows cd to reset the computer. Then I completely removed ALL boot drives and there is no option in the bios to add any drives, only delete. Clearly there are no more boot options to delete. So now I am left with this device always...
