Completely disconnect from the internet and restart the installation with No Internet. Let the installer use only the files contained on the ISO . Then, update the system after you reboot to the newly installed OS.
You are welcome, Thank Cavy as well. He's the one that spent the time with you. He was also the one to suggest doing the updates , by ethernet , then reinstalling the driver.
Using the keyboard shortcut Alt+F8 is another way to access the "Resize Window "function. Or you can open a terminal , type xfwm4-settings and press Enter or the Return key then select an option that has wider borders. Daloa is an improvement over the Default and Default-hdpi is wider still. While Default-xhdpi is closer to 6 pixels border width and much easier to grab than the 1 or 2 pixel wide borders for most WM settings.
After updating PeppermintOS, did you try to re-install the driver for your WiFi card, while still booted to Peppermint ?
You are Welcome Hopefully that little bit that helped you will find it's way to others, as well. KsWoodsMan
With your current Devuan based Peppermint ISO , boot into a live session as though you were going to do an install. Until you sudo edit the file /usr/sbin/sources-media .Don't start the install yet In the file /usr/sbin/sources-media ,look for the line that says RELEASE="bullseye" change it to - RELEASE="chimaera" Save the file and close the editor app used to make your changes. Start the installation. The installer should now find the the package it was looking for when it can't be found on the...
@Lyndon James Price , The error code 100 may be an indicator that the installation was done without the benefit of an internet connection . This was one of a couple of things that "crept in" to the Devuan versions. These will be corrected in the upcoming release. If having an internet connection during the install doesn't correct it for you ... Please, Let Me Know Thanks KsWoodsMan

There are a couple of ways I can see these extra fonts might have shown up in you installs. Earlier releases for PeppermintOS had the Apt configuration "APT::InstallRecommends" set to "1" or "true" . This was treating the package maintainers recommendations as though they were dependencies for packages. The additional language packs for LibreOffice could be listed as a recommendation for something in in LibreOffice or as a recommendation for something that was installed as a recommendation. As it turns out , The PeppermintOS project is less of a "flash in the pan" than some expressed with our initial release on February 2nd, in 2022. We've been getting a lot of encouragement from the community. This has been not just on the forum or across the web on various social platforms, it includes so very many favorable reviews in numerous outlets. It's hard to find and see them all to thank them and acknowledge their effort to share what we are doing. We do see the community support and we do...

What kind of router/gateway are you using that requires 802.1x security to connect to your home network ?! This is generally only ever seen in high profile corporate / college environments. Or local subscription based connections in some apartment complexes before High Speed internet connections were available via cable, satellite or local phone companies. It is probably greyed out because the file /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf is not present. There is an example of it at /usr/share/doc/wpasupplicant/examples/wpa_supplicant.conf...

Until you've had un-adulterated internet .... Without anything to compare it to , How do you know when it isn't ?
My apologies, I shortened the name of the package needed for install. Instead of the name of the driver being brlaser it is printer-driver-brlaser . The commands I provided should have been sudo apt update && sudo apt install printer-driver-brlaser That should be more successful than what I'd initially offered. Like I said , by not owning this model I I'm not sure if this is a better approach than installing it through the support website given below. Occasionally I've ran into instances where some...
Hi and Welcome ! I don't have one of these to try out But it does look like the printer is supported with the brlaser driver from Debian. This series of printers is listed here : https://packages.debian.org/bullseye/printer-driver-brlaser To get this printer working might be as easy as opening a terminal and typing these commands with your password for sudo access. sudo apt update && sudo apt install brlaser Then reopen the printer manager application to see if it found your printer or to try manually...
For the PepermintOS-Devuan_64.iso you will want to get the correct sha512.checksum for it. You can get that file here, https://sourceforge.net/projects/peppermintos/files/PeppermintOS-Devuan_64-sha512.checksum/download And save it in the same directory where the ISO file is stored. Open a terminal window and go to the directory containing your PeppermintOS-Devuan_64.iso and your PeppermintOS-Devuan_64-sha512.checksum files In the terminal window type this command sha512sum -c PeppermintOS-Devuan_64-sha512.checksum...
Thanks for the follow-up. It hadn't been something I've consciously noticed.
Oldton, You are Welcome. We hoped anyone that noticed would deem this as a good change. KsW
Sorry that I didn't catch the live show. I did catch it afterwards then went back and seen my omission that gave you troubles. sudo apt install nala --target-release testing --simulate My apologies for that . I had it right in the screenshot of the terminal but missed it 2x in my examples. My keyboarding doesn't aways keep up with where my thoughts are at. Glad you found it and got to try out the nala with its fast frontend to apt and the more coondensed output with better summarization of what just...
Rick , I found the link for the upcoming show. I'm looking forward to seeing it but will probably have to join late Or I'll watch it in entirety when I get in. I'm posing it here and hope you have a good turn out. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK5_n-nu7Xg Thanks Again KsW
Differing runtime libraries. This is a discussion best suited for where you are getting the broken software you try to install.
Alynur , Right On ! sudo apt install <package_name> It just works. And since the software/package management is all being handled by apt it just works.
Tell the maintainer that packaged LibreOffice , it is not working as a stand alone application. They have missing or broken dependencies. Then uninstall it and reinstall it using `sudo apt install libeoffice``
Update the system from in Update Manager.
Again , What were the errors ? The proof of concept was that onionshare, from the Debian repos, would install and run correctly. Then it was - I could share the file. After 8-9 DL's of that file I was convinced it was working. There was nothing special about Peppermint.py . It was just a file. If you are having trouble with some version from somewhere else . try uninstalling it before trying to use apt to install or go to the package maintainer for the software and inform them their app is not stand...
I don't know that any of us keep track of them by their sha512sum hash . You can open the checksum file with a test editor and read it . There should be a Birth Date for when the file was created. Internally in the ISO there are several paces where the exact timestamp for the creation time happened. Once you know the date it was built it can be checked to see what you might expect to be new. We do keep an updated file for (most ) changes directly affecting the build. You can find that here. http...
Oh , I forgot to mention. With some Acer Aspires (mostly netbooks) there are reports that the keyboard has the number lock on by default. I've looked up the few models that were ever mentioned and a quick press of the Function + NumLock buttons together fixes this . I'm not sure why it raised so much "ruckus" with them.
To my knowledge, there was never an automated upgrade from stable to testing in mind. At least not since the time I came onboard with the project. If there was any talk if this it was never in my presence. The idea had been to make newer packages available but to keep them pinned to a low priority so they were never installed by default by doing sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade or sudo apt install <package_name> without specifying a --target-release. I've seen you on some of the Linux shows ,...
I cannot guarantee mixing packages from the testing repository with those in the stable/bullseye installation won't ever cause problems. It is usually a pain free experience, for me, with the method I've provided. Yet, I don't recommend doing this, from scratch, on a live feed with packages yet to be tried. Even Bill Gates was bit in the rear when demonstarting Plug-N-Pray driver installation when his system crashed and borked itself on stage infront of a live televised audience with a common printer....
Rick , HI ! This fell into the "should we ... shouldn't we" do it area. While some of the devs thought this was not a bad idea , others fell into the wake of the criticisms from the disparaging YT reviewer crowd. As such it was never fully removed nor completed. Part of the framework for pulling from testing and unstable is still in place in the amd64 version , it might not be there elsewhere for all of the builds. This is looking good for us.
Hmm it works as expected here. sudo apt update; sudo apt install onionshare will get all of the dependencies and install them Afterwards onionshare --stay-open ~/Peppermint.py loads the app, creates the unique URL and waits for a connection. Is it giving you any errors and where did you install it from ? KsWoodsMan
Is this a confirmed failure that the installer fails and won't proceed past the point of installing packages ? Or a suspected failure from the the notice ? Unless there are packages you want added during the install It should still proceed. It was written not to need to connect, for a basic install. The warning is there as more as a reminder than a failure. Now, why it is that you have internet but the installer didn't recognize the connection .... I don't know. I'm not sure of the algorythm they...

Page loads can be very slow. That sounds more like a problem with DNS (lookup) Resolution either at your gateway or with your ISP . Or enabling/disabling Hardware NAT or QOS on the router, depending on your needs. It could also be that your browser is working from swap . If it is DNS related, Changing the default DNS provider(s) in the router could improve this considerably. Besides namebench I'm sure there are other Linux equivalents to Gibson Research's DNS Benchmark utility, I haven't gone looking...

It has taken a while getting here . Alynur, You won't have to reinstall to get the latest updates. Here in the SF Community for PeppermintOS, search here for "pepbit.sh" this is an update patch for recent versions of PeppermintOS that didn't have the Update Manager included in the PepHub, yet. for the Netbook from the Vista-Generation , have you considered trying the x86_32 bit version on it ? It reportedly uses fewer system resources and runs in a lighter footprint, more suited for "very modest" and older hardware. Thanks KsW
@Alynur The wording may have been confusing . Update Pep Tools is a part of "Update Manager". It is Update Manager that is in the PepHub . Update Pep Tools is one of the Update Manager options . It isn't automated until you set a schedule for it . Or you can run it manually from time to time, when it suits you. We try to leave the choice of when and how to run it up to the end-user. I hope that helps KsW

From the information given, the main partition is less than 16GB. This seems like it was installed to a "16GB" USB drive. I think the local copy I have is from the DL server. The time in the datestamp in the ISO looks correct for when we built it. Alan , A quick search turned up this his similar thread https://forum.manjaro.org/t/usb-headset-not-recognized-if-replugged-or-plugged-in-after-boot/27205/13 , where the original poster was expecting the headphones to listed as a new option added to the rest of the choices connected to the internal soundcard. I agree. And to make it more how you want it to be , the command below will change the default behaviour from Installing recommended software as a dependency to Only installing the requested package and the actual dependencies for that package. apt-config dump | grep -we Recommends -e Suggests | sed s/1/0/ | sudo tee /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/999no-recommends Thanks KsWoodsMan
No, not entirely. We haven't dumped systemd but we are near the point we can offer an alternative. We have an amd64 version based on Debian stable that uses systemd. We have the Intel x86_32 version also based on Debian stable that uses systemd. In the final phases of testing, We have a Devuan version for Intel x86_32 CPUs that uses sysinit instead of systemd. Following the Devuan_32 version , the 64 bit intel x86 architecture will also be non-systemd. We will soon have both publicly available. Thanks...

Manuel Rosa is quite correct. While looking for the ffmultimedia package , I hadn't considered it might be in the the recently added 3rd party multimedia repository. Since his explanation also included that ffmulticonverter also converts some LibreOffice files it has dependencies to some of the base packages in LibreOffice. The rest of LibreOffice was installed as recommended software. After finally getting back, from you, how it was installed, This seems to be fully cleared up. Sending any additional...

What commands or process did you use to install ffmulticonverter ? 1st thing... Following a fresh install, the first thing for me would not be a visit to synaptic. We use our computers differently. There are several different ways to install software. For me to know which method you used requires that I would ask you this. During the installation process, LibreOffice is available as an installable package . Not only is LibreOffice available, as a whole package, the individual components are as well...

Are you connecting to your printer wirelessly or by USB for print and scan services ?
A little more looking shows you are not alone looking for a newer version or getting the current version to work. From here , https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2474789&p=14094872 , otgers have shown their aingst trying to get it to work with recent releases. Actually , after trying several times to get this to install, with the packages available, I added Buster to the available repos in my systems /etc/apt/sources.list, to no avail. And then trying it from in the Devuan test installs , that have some of the dependencies by default I gave up. For downloading, You can find it here: https://packages.debian.org/buster/libgtk2-perl Navigate to the bottom of the page and choose the architecture of your system from the list, whether it is amd64 or i386. The dependencies are listed with it on the same page. At the top of the page for the packages is a search feature to help with...
I'm curious about something. When using the Live ISO to boot the system , to a live session, are you able to shutdown correctly ? or does it exhibit the same behaviour ? Also you can turn off the splash on boot, reboot and shutdown by removing the word "splash" from the boot entry, This is done from the grub boot menu presented during boot up. When the system first boots it waits 10 seconds before starting. At this point you can press the "e" key to edit the boot menu. Removing "splash" from here...

@revove , You are welcome. I'm glad it turned out to be an easy solution. Welcome to Peppermint !!! That sha512sum , it's reliable. I can flip one bit in an ISO and the checksum will fail. When I flip that bit back , it is good again and will pass the check. A "bad burn" can happen just like a bad download can happen. When this happens , have you installed any software into the live session , to try it out or made any changes in the desktop or the system before starting the installation ? Or did you boot up the laptop and start the install from a fresh system ? And if it is doing it at the same point every time it might be a corrupted download. This is the first thing to check. either verify the sha512sums with the checkfile here of SF with that ISO or get a fresh copy to try. Thanks, KsWoodsMan
