Uh - I should have checked something else earlier. I have just re-installed 2.48.1, then 2.47, then 2.46, and they all show the same symptoms that I thought had arrived with 2.49. Clearly something else in my set-up has altered affecting KeePass' ability to acquire the update information. Now then ... what else have I changed/installed/uninstalled/re-configured recently ... ? Apologies to Paul and all other readers - this one appears to be on me.

Hi Has anyone else seen the update check on KeePass failing since 2.49 became available? I upgraded from the previous version. I'd always had "Tools > Options > Advanced > Check for update at KeePass startup" checked, and immediately on starting 2.49 it began showing a failed message for the check. The actual function of KeePass itself didn't appear to be affected once I closed this window. I completely uninstalled 2.49, scrubbed out any leftover registry keys, powered down, powered up, and re-installed...

Thank you for the very prompt response - much appreciated. I didn't appreciate the technical reasons behind the issue. The absence of the context menu had me speculating whether this was a 'feature' I didn't understand correctly! If the choice is to provide coloured text or a context menu, I'll take coloured text every time. Your assumption about copy, paste etc is correct and I've already been in the habit of using Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V where necessary. This is not a showstopper so please don't rank...
