The official version number is 2.7. The rules for setting the number in the .so file name are subtle (having to do whether an so file can be used with an executable which was compiled at an earlier date) and the resulting number bears no particular relation to the "version number". The line "The current version of the library is 2.6" in NEWS is a bug. Sorry. I'll try to get it right when version 2.8 is released.

The functionality of intersect.cpp is now included in GeographicLib. You can install this library in Mac machines with brew install geographiclib. Then do man IntersectTool.

OK. Thanks for the update. I'll slap a "GOING AWAY AT SOME POINT" notice on my cgi-bin scripts. Any estimate on when this might be? If I replace "AT SOME POINT" by "ON 2026-12-31", will I be safe? Or am I being too greedy.
