I agree with Adrian Kentleton ! People who know almost nothing about computers are the ones who complain about VeraCrypt. These people make no backups, etc. They are in a hurry to encrypt / hide files but don't want to take the time to understand how VeraCrypt works. They have limited understanding how to use an external drive, what an OS does. etc etc. That's why they end up formatting the wrong drive, writing over files and on and on! They don't want to take the time to create a backup. They don't...
Veracrypt only encrypts while at rest. Once you un-encrypt the container all the files will be visible.

Thanks for all your challenging work on Veracrypt. And thanks for your explanation regarding Windows 7 and Windows XP.
It could be that drive M is being used by the USB drive itself. Remember, as already commented on, an encrypted USB will take up two drive letters. - one for the actual USB device and another drive letter for encrypted partition of the USB.
As already mentioned by Trismegistos if you don't trust the tool, move on. If you are worried about VeraCrypt then find another tool. You are just spinning your wheels here. Please, move on. Or if possible, acquire some common sense.
Thanks Mounir IDRASSI, I agree with Enigma2Illusion, and I am thankful for your hard work and I understand that your family comes first. I am very thankful veracrypt is cross platform.
I totally agree with Blip of Consciousness. Thanks for such a great project!
Yes, it can be formatted. As to make the USB drive only accessible to your machine, check out windows forums.
Try right clicking one of the number slots.
Do you have a menu at top ov VeraCrypt? If yes, click Volumes then click mount volume.
I use VeraCrypt in Linux and with Windows and there sure is an option in Linux to decrypt! Just like Windows right click the slot select file and mount. You do NOT have to move the files to another location, works just like in Windows.
It's free software. You can always contribute funds.
How about mounting the Veractypt drive and then right click and pick properties?
Try 1.24-Hotfix2
This is a windows issue. If you "google" usb write protected you will find plenty of answers.
The Windows and Linux file name characters rules are different.
Well said Acer Acer!!!!!
