I had the same problem on a Windows 10 computer with Java 1.8, but not on another which was still in Java 1.7. The problem appeared on the latter when I upgraded Java to 1.8 (to solve a problem with another program). So it seems to be related to the last version of Java, but till now I didn't succeeded in having both versions installed and specify which one JPdfBookmarks should use. I will make more experiments and publish the results here, even if my knowledge of Java would not allow me to modify...
