So I ended up re-formatting my C drive and installing Windows 10 again, downloading all my drivers and installing them. Then uninstalling all the Windows' bloatware apps that I could, which were mainly games. @objectivite said they had success with v18.5 so I installed that and it works as it should. (pictures attached). I chose this option because I cannot afford to lose more days trying to overcome the 'right click open archive' inoperability of 7zip. This new Dell G7 17 runs off a nvme ssd (c:)...

Thanks for your quick reply @BillAnt. I have tried your suggestion, sadly it did not enable the 'open archive' function. I unselected, restarted my laptop for good measure, then selected all. I tried to view .zip, .rar, .7z and nothing happened. I will try your specific selection again tomorrow with a clear head.

Igor thank you for creating this product and releasing it as a free program. Your product is unparralled in stability, consistency and adaptability with new technologies. Thank you for also generously giving your time to answer questions and trouble shoot problems without asking for payment. I and many others appreciate you, your time and your awesome program. I am hoping someone can help me with my problem, which is the same problem as @Objectivite explained. selecting right click 'Open archive'...
