Han - yes the root directory is overwritten. Hower the home directory is not. MW4 installs in the directory the installation file is in. So in my case it installs in home/mw4. I actually copied the Astap .zst file to my home/astap directory, but when it runs, it puts all the files in the root directory /opt/astap. SMPro or kstars can also use Astap instead of Stellarsolver. I think if its in the home directory i can point both SMPro in the root directory and MW4 in the home directory to Astap in...
Jasem had good question. Was wondering if it is ok to publish the link to your arch linux file direct on SMPro repisitory or better to the main page and reference the arch linux file.
this is what i received from Jasem/Pouya: Yes, thank you for it. Regarding the upgrade, your /home/stellarmate is persistent, but you will lose your changes on /opt/astap, so you will need to copy it to /home/ to make it persistent https://stellarmate.com/support/faq/stellarmate/how-to-install-mw4-on-sm-os-2-0.html https://stellarmate.com/support/faq/stellarmate/how-to-install-astap-on-sm-os-2-0.html i noted the errors on the copyright.txt file not copying over and that the .lck file needed to be...
There was some issue im trying to get clarification on from Jasem/Pouya. They told me to solve the update issue, everyting not "Stellarmate" needs to move out of the root directory into the home directory. i noticed the .zst files (app and data) loaded from a home folder location home/astap / directly to a root file (/opt/astap). i'm trying to get them to explain exactly what needs to be done with the .zst files as i may have missed something. When i tried to move the 1459 files from the root /opt/astap...
Michel (MW4) said: Hi Jim, great to hear an good compilation of what to do. Sidenote: with 4.0.0 of MW4 coming (actually first betas) step 8 will go away, because I moved from PyQt5 to PySide6, which brings aarch64 architecture with it and you don't need precompiled packages anymore. Michel
I think Jasem/Pouya are working to resolve the atomic update issues which will reportedly wipe MW4 and ASTAP changes with each update.
This is what I did to install MW4 and ASTAP on SMPro. This was communicated to Jasem/Pouya (SM), MW4 (Michel), ASTAP (Han) For mw4 there are installation instructions at https://mworion.github.io/MountWizzard4/install/index.html In summary 1) in stellarmate directory using terminal type curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh 2) close terminal and reopen terminal. Type uv —version 3) mkdir mw4 4) cd mw4 5) uv vent -p 3.10 6) Check to make sure you installed venv. Type ls -la 7) uv pip install...
Jasem responded: Yes GTK is out. Maybe Han should switch to Qt? Not easy but it's much better than GTK
Clear skies tonight and I'm happy to report success! I copied the astap.zst executable to the mw4 directory so i could copy it back if needed. Then i duplicated the astap_cli and renamed it astap. I then did a sudo cp astap /opt/astap/ to overwrite the old astap .zst executable. i then checked file properties in Dolphin and noted the modification was done. Loaded up SMPro OS 2.0 and MW4. it solved every point. So now i need to know from Jasem how to ensure i can get updates for SM Pro 2.0 without...
Let me know the proper command to do this. i was having issues trying to copy and paste a d80 data file using dolphin file manager so i used the d50 .zst file which worked fine. or maybe let me know the commands in bash Konsole to do this. i do have some clear skies forecasted tonight and maybe tomorrow for testing... Thank you Han!

Han - i downloaded the .cli version an ran it from the /Downloads directory using bash Konsole command. Here are the results. I think the OS is running in 64bit - see pic of AI response.
Tuesday night looks clear so I tried MW4 (uv run mw4) and ASTAP (.zst) on SMPro OS 2.0 (Arch Linux). Another failure on 3 attempts to plate solve a 6 point model. None of the 18 frames solved. I have included a WeTransfer link to the MW4 log and image folders which will expire in 3 days. https://we.tl/t-XxcgjWgWJQ?utm_campaign=TRN_TDL_05&utm_source=sendgrid&utm_medium=email&trk=TRN_TDL_05 I think we are waiting on Michel as he mentioned an issue with MW4. Jasem was also going to check some atomic...
Han, i am planning to try the .zst files you gave me above. i think the root directory may be locked since i was unable to add the D80 files. However, the .zst files seem to have loaded in /opt/astap. I dont think i will be able to download into the root directory without a .zst file. Jasem seems to be working on something, i just dont understand exactly what it is and whether it will help the program work. it may be related to something to keep the program in the root direct while an atomic update...
When i launch from dolphin, there is no GUI.
i think everything downloaded fine to /opt/astap after i followed Jasem's advice to sudo rm (not "remove") a .lck file. This has something to do with atomic updates and someone will be checking how to handle this going forward. Also, when i try to launch astap from a file manager Dolphin, it does not show any kind of GUI, so i think i have to test using MW4. The initial setup of MW4 seems to recognize the locations for the app and database location in the root directory where everything installed...

In parallel I have asked Jasem Mutlaq (Stellarmate) for advice as well. He asked me to try the command sudo remove ....

This is what I get. Maybe im using the wrong commands?
Han - this is running on a Stellarmate Pro. Han - Mount Wizard 4 does not seem to be working with ASTAP using the tar.gz file. here is the MW4 log. What i need are clear instructions with the command istructions you suggest to install this ising a terminal (bash -Konsole) in SMPro OS 2.0. i have sent this to Michel Worian (MW4) and Jasem Mutlaq (SMPro). Appreciate any help you can give us.
I'm trying to install ASTAP on a Stellarmate Pro OS 2.0 so that Mount Wizzard 4 v3 can plate solve. i have used the debian dowloads in the past, but with the latest SMPro OS 2.0, I have been advised debian will not work on Arch Linux. Does anyone have links to alternative ASTAP app and database and some instructions on how to load via a terminal command prompt on Arch Linux? Best regards, Jim
