thanks nikkho! PS: I made a testrun with disabled mutools (exclude tool option in the Gui), and it worked very well, so mutool was the troublemaker here. I found out that mutools cause the blank pages. the option -g still creates valid document, but using -gg or -ggg creates documents with just blank pages. Please can you change the -ggg option to -g? mutools echo a warning for the files that come out blank during the processing, but does not create an errorcode in the shell. it might be a possibility to discard files for which a warning was created if there is an error code returned from mutool processing, then simply the original file can be used...

Hi Kurt, thanks for your message, I did some testing and recorded some videos to let people see the effect. I tested myself with some containers, i.e. diverse combinations of hidden / non hidden containers, diverse filesystems. All had the same effects, it seems these features are not related to the problem. The extremely slow opening of files and file operations in general is just occurring on VeraCrypt containers. I tried to have the container local on the disk, or on a USB disk, no difference...
