The defulat firmware doesn't have the option to boot from USB floppy image. There is a specific fork that has: https://github.com/jinshin/8088_bios/releases/tag/v1.0.5 Unfortunately that is not an option as I don't have an EEPROM programmer currently. Unless it can be done in software. But I haven't found it's possible by googling around. I also tought about trying to write the disk image to CF card on another OS or computer, but haven't yet got around to try it. On Linux and a modern Ryzen computer,...
Turns out you have to know exact type of EEPROM BIOS is written to and its address in the system. I tried something but couldn't flash the changes back to BIOS. As it still works, I'm too scared to play around more to not mess up something. And the chip itself is covered by sticker, so I can't see the make of it.
It also seems to be possible to force CHS or disable LBA directly from xtidecfg.com. Well, I'll look into it more when I get back from work.
Now I remembered I saw an option to update xtide rom with xtidecfg.com utility. But I'll have to read up on it before trying.

Hi Jim. I posted more info on DOS Ain't dead forum, but I'll try to get this topic up to date too. The topic there is: http://www.bttr-software.de/forum/board_entry.php?id=21061 I made backups of original CF cards with ddrescue from Linux. Those unforunately come with MS-DOS 6.22. But if I write them to 512 MB CF card using "dd" under Linux they have, so far always worked. I really want to free up this machine with FreeDOS, but haven't had luck so far. Trying to "sys C:" didn't work. Either on live...
d) Just tried it. Doesn't display anything when started without any arguments. I also tried starting with /info and /status. /status gives output "Detected 1 fixed disk." and then gets stucked until restart.
