The new behaviour has been around for quite some time, and it's still annoying, especially as some systems run the old version of joe and some systems run the new version. This will be still very annoying for a few more years. For such a breaking change it would be nice to have a config option to keep the old behavior, so that we could change it back in the global joerc.
