Until I get the preference checker button for "auto-appending number to suggested filrname" to auto disable itself when the "save last directory used" is unchecked, I'll set the variable to auto get the CWD to avoid errors.

Yes it seems very likely that the project has been abandonned. However there is a fork that has been patched recently: https://github.com/sandsmark/diffimg It works very well so far (on Linux).
