That sounds great. What ping times do your band achieve, and what overall delay?
VOTE: llcon Amazing to be able to play with others in real time. Been wanting this for years - should have looked sooner
Hi Harald, yes interconnection is needed clearly (which would be a non-trivial feature request). We just 2 people we can already do it - I tried with a friend connecting to a server on my laptop last week and we concluded that the performance was better connecting to a good public server. Probably the connection between ISPs isn't good enough for this to work well as someone noted in another thread
Fixed in version 3.5.2
Yes a reboot fixed it for me
Hi folks and thanks again to Volker for this amazing software. I was experimenting some more today with Jamulus and a question came into my mind - could latency be reduced by essentially running the server in each client... avoiding the need to have everything go via an external server? If I run a server locally and friend A connects to that then we have approximated that, but if a third person B joins then the round trip latency from A to B via my server won't be so good and it would be better to...
Fantastic - congrats! Definitely use a wired network connection, and you also need good quality broadband with upload of around 10Mbit/s or more I would say. I've just upgraded my broadband and my upload has increased from 1 to 10 Mbit/s - it has made all the difference.
I may also have hit this problem. Macbook pro 2012, MacOS 10.12.6. Today if I try to use my HP USB stereo headset I get the same error message. It's still working with the built-in audio though. Probably I need to try a reboot but have some other things I am working on just now. Will post an update when I've rebooted.
Hi Chris, I gather that it is the upload speed which is the critical factor as far as Jamulus is concerned but once you have enough probably a law of diminishing returns applies. Last week my internet was upgraded and the upload increased from 1Mbit to 10Mbit. With hardwired ethernet Jamulus reports ping times to the most local servers of 7 to 10ms and Overall Delay of about 28-30ms. With this sort of delay Jamulus works great. I now wonder if I should have upgraded to 20Mbit upload! - in case I...
It can happen that no Device is selected even though the dropdown is populated (e.g. if the audio interface you used in your previous Jamulus session is not curently connected). If you then try to connect to a server, the main Jamulus window shows "TRYING TO CONNECT" message which is rather misleading. The fix is of course to select input and output devices, but a more useful message would be helpful in this situation ("Please select audio devices for input and output before trying to connect")....
Thanks for your reply :D It is better now I have a better upload speed (10 Mbit - 4 days ago I only had 1Mbit)). Usually I just have a moment of silence when there is a dropout, but very occasionaly a loud click noise instead. With Audio Channels -> Mono and Audio Quality -> High and Buffers 64 or 128 I have Audio Stream Rate of 444kbps. If I enable Small Network Buffers then the stream rate is 672kbps, which should not be a problem for my improved 10,000kbps upload speed internet connection...
Hi and thanks for your helpful post. I think I'd agree with everything you say. Just a few thoughts to avoid echo I think you have to insist that people use headphones to improve quality of vocal sound a better quality microphone would be needed, and yes perhaps a little reverb would help. The quality of headphones is probably also important you probably need to provide remote assistance via screen share to help most people get their setup right, including getting their microphone level right so...

Hi Volker, thanks for your amazing software. I've been looking for this for 15 years. As I'm a new user with little actual experience using Jamulus for real I'll post my main suggestion for improving Jamulus here rather than complete your survey just yet: is is possible to improve what happens when there is a bad dropout - occasionally I get a loud noise in my headphones. Some sort of more graceful degradation would be a huge improvement as the loud "bang" can be unpleasant. Maybe Jamulus could even...
