It might be that the server/client settings still default to true color unless both sides support and negotiate the same visual depth, so just passing -depth alone won’t always force it. You may need to adjust both the X server config and the client connection options. Kind of like how checking something like Cookie Run Kingdom Codes requires using the right source/version—small setup details can make a big difference.
