I use Freeplane on my Windows and my MacBook laptop. On both the program works good however on my MBP-M1 I notice that the memory used is very high. It varies between 1,5 GB to more then 3 GB. This is unusual high for a rather small program. On the Apple M1 computers handle their memory management different related to the Windows or Intel based macOS computers. Anybody any idea why this high memory usage is seen while using Freeplane on Apple M1 computers ? BTW I installed the M1 native Java version...

I enjoyed reading this discussion but agree that we need to stop at this moment. Different insights have been explained. So like Edo concluded, let's avoid having too many bosses and too little workers ;-) @Dimitry, the option to have two modes is excellent, this will not delay/distract the regular progress of the tool but enables the option to see if an alternative toolbar is a feasible option.

If I may, a short view on the latest items in this discussion. If we drill down in the mentioned arguments, I do not think we are too far off. Efficiency and minimalistic interfaces can go hand in hand with well structured and clean menus, they are part of the interface and need to be helping, not irritating or obstructing. What 'helping' means can be different for each user. Nevertheless everybody needs some kind of menu structure. Personal am I very much in favour of having the option to define...

Nevertheless this discussion triggered a question at my side, not so much ribbon design yes or no, but the attractiveness of the menu toolbars. My kids and their friends study at the university and I tried to convince them of the usefulness of Freeplane. Some agree and use Freeplane but others rather stick with alternative software which looks...
