Sometimes when this seems to be the case, there is actually a hidden saboteur somewhere. But when playing with a lot of Sonic Tanks, I've indeed had scenarios where the game reproducibly (loading a saved game) did not end at all - though I never waited for a day. :)

I can't remember the original AI ever attacking with almost everything at the same time. But then it never built much in the first place beyond replacing its initial buildings (possibly also harvesters), limiting its monetary supply and hence its capacity to even build an army. In contrast, with sufficient funds, DL's AI can seem intent on paving the planet with Refineries. In the tricky levels, one strategy I've successfully employed is using Carryalls to transport Siege Tanks (sometimes also Rocket...
