oh! that makes a lot of sense. a pro told me that it would be fine to format the thing as NTFS for use in both operating systems, but they probably didn’t consider that. Thank you! that explains why it often worked in windows before function was restored in Linux. Is there some way to repair the file system intentionally from either OS, or is it just sonething Windows does autonatically?

Hi, I am new to encryption, and I foolishly attempted to encrypt my enormous and precious Seagate backup hard drive as the first try. I left the program running overnight, and awoke to find that it had failed at around 3%. I started the decryption process, and it ran for some time before stopping around 2% encrypted.
