Hello Steven, I will consider that. However I am happy to run alternative testing - 20230807-mantic and selecting Clonezilla live (VGA with large font & To RAM) as it is only the initial loading that is tiny. Once it gets to the "Start Clonezilla" screen the font size is acceptable. I reported the problem to give you a heads up about it. I still could use it to backup the Mac. Regards, fbagnato

Hi Steven, v3.1.1-10 does not complete booting. The DVD drive light periodically flashes a few times then goes off then the cycle of the flashing and off repeats continuously. I found the same problem where Clonezilla never completes starting up on the Stable v3.1.0-22 i686-pae and amd64 versions. The only release that would boot was the Stable v3.1.0-22 i686. Seems like it is looping on a startup instruction. Regards, fbagnato

Hello all, I have already posted this problem in the help question but I do not have a definitive answer or resolution yet so I am hoping someone (other than Steven who would be very busy) could answer my questions. Excuse the double post but I really do need to know if I can replace Acronis True Image with Clonezilla and have a reliable tool. The scenario is: 1) I am trying to clone a 1Tb Hard Drive to another 1Tb Hard Drive 2) The hard drive has DOS, FreeDOS, Windows Me, ReactOS, Windows XP, Windows...

Hello Zero, I don't know if this will help but I was having a lot of problems getting a multi-boot Windows 10 bootloader hard drive to boot after restoring the image backup. I wasn't getting any errors but a flashing cursor on the left hand corner of the screen. The way I ended up with a successful boot from a restored image was to select the expert parameters and selecting the -j1 (default: unchecked): "Write MBR (512 B) again after image is restored. Not OK for partition table differ from that...

Hello again Steven, I have tried selecting and deselecting -t1, -j1 doesn't exist in the cloning parameters (is this intentional????) and again tried selecting and deselecting -e1 but no joy. The interesting thing is that it was the selection of the --j1 (default: unchecked): "Write MBR (512 B) again after image is restored. Not OK for partition table differ from that of the image" was what fixed the drive to restoring correctly when I had problems restoring this drive. I would love to try this setting...

Hello Steven, But should the settings I used work? What settings would ensure that the boot manager will clone correctly onto the new drive? I would like to use Clonezilla instead of Acronis True Image which is what I used to use. What should I select in the advanced settings to successfully clone the drive? Surely I am selecting something wrong! I tried the next lot of settings as per the attached photo and there was no difference, the system would not boot. Regards, fbagnato

Hi all, Now that I have successfully restored a backup I need to clone a drive onto another drive but once the cloning completes successfully I am getting a flashing cursor on the left hand side of the screen with no successful boot. I had the same problems with restoring a backup ([https://sourceforge.net/p/clonezilla/discussion/Help/thread/52a6860f8d/]) with the same symptoms and I finally guessed that I needed to select -j1 (default: unchecked): "Write MBR (512 B) again after image is restored....

OK problem solved. Firstly I suspect the hard drive on the desktop I was trying to restore is failing. The backup that was reading as corrupt did restore again once I changed the hard drive. Strange though as the failing hard drive was the target drive and the backup reporting as corrupt was on another hard drive. Nonetheless I stand corrected in saying that Clonezilla did not corrupt the backup image. Finally I managed to get a successful boot after restoration by setting the parameter -j1 (default:...

Greets all, A while ago I decided to change from using Acronis True Image and start using Clonezilla for my backups. Beside successfully cloning a hard drive to an SSD I hadn't performed any restores. Well, my desktop Windows 10 decided to fully die, nothing could be done to recover it so I decided to restore my Clonezilla backup. I had created the images using back then v2.6.6-15-amd64 and backed them up with Expert Settings and (I think) I had used the following (basically default) parameters:...

No problem Steven. I will consider all this information in the future. It looks like Clonezilla alone cannot do what I was trying to do. Regards, Flavio

Hello Steven, Thanks for your reply. I did use the -icds flag and the -k1 flag but the target partitions were a different size so Windows on the target drive did not boot. The methods in your second link use GParted in conjunction with Clonezilla which I was trying to avoid. I wanted to know whether I could do the cloning just using Clonezilla and retaining the source partition sizes. I couldn't find a method to do this just using Clonezilla. I didn't try making an image then restoring that image...

Hello Steven, Thanks for your reply. The link you provided describes cloning a smaller drive to the a larger drive not a larger drive to a smaller drive. Question 121. Is that possible I can restore to smaller HDD when the image was taken from bigger one? relates to my scenario. I did use the -icds flag and the -k1 flag but the target partitions were a different size so Windows on the target drive did not boot. I was wanting to clone a larger drive to a smaller drive, retain the source partition...

Yes - GPT maintains duplicate datastructures at the beginning and end of the disk. I've never created a GPT layout using GParted so at this point I am in the dark on how to do that. I have created MBR partitions with GParted before but again never had to create a MBR with GParted. I am moving to a new PC in the next couple of months and that new computer will be an UEFI/GPT setup. I was just going to install Windows 10 on a new drive to do the work of creating the initial GPT table. However, if you...

Sorry - I was being a bit sarcastic about that MBR thing. Apologies. No problemo, I was trying to understand what you meant with that statement. Duh I missed the sarcasm :) See [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GUID_Partition_Table) I read it and I see what you mean but I don't fully understand it. Does that mean there is an actual partition at the end of the disk, because there wasn't one on my laptop. The last "partition" is the Unallocated Space?!? It looks like there are no partitions at all reading...

Hi Jeremy, You said "Since the two MBR's would necessarily be different, you couldn't just copy them, could you?". Is this a question or a statement? Yes, the two MBR's were different but the difference between the 2 MBR's was just the Unallocated Space. The other partitions were to be identical (I shrunk the partitions beforehand so that they would all fit on the smaller SSD drive). I just found Clonezilla seemed to lack a way of me cloning the larger drive to the smaller SSD retaining the same...

Hello all, When cloning a larger drive to a smaller drive by using the -icds flag there is no option to use the original partition table dimensions. "Resize partition table proportionally" changes the sizes of the partitions on the smaller drive which is not desirable when Windows 10 is installed and requires the partitions to remain the same size and in the same location. "Use the partition table from the image" fails as the source drive is larger than the smaller target drive. I am guessing it...
