I attach screenshots to demonstrate the points I made in my original report. The screenshot named '1' shows my attempt to copy the code snippet on p. 1086 of the manual. I placed the cursor at the beginning of the code snippet, hit the left button, and started to drag to the right. I'd love to add a minimal working example, however I haven't used TikZ/PGF since, roughly, the time I made this bug report, and I've grown very rusty. I wouldn't be able to produce a working example now without a lot of effort, which I'd rather not put into it. Thanks for going over all my bug reports.
