Thanks, Andy. Much appreciate all of your efforts. I have done almost all of that (all except pavucontrol, CW, wsjt-x, and flrig), the USB connections are well proven and I do get a waterfall with individual received signals showing, it just doesn't look right and won't decode. I can run fldigi native on MacOSX using the same hardware and get a solid decode on PSK31, then switch over to the VM on the same hardware and same received signal and get garbage. I haven't tried CW, will try that. Rick ...
Note that this problem isn't unique to AHRL. I just figured that AHRL, being optimized for this stuff, will work better, and if I can get it to work on AHRL maybe I can get it to work on my Windows VMs.
Understood, Andy, sorry about that. I thought my first message in this thread had enough detail. I don't know what to add beyond what is there. Digital modes via fldigi work native MacOSX, but trying to run them in any virtual machine on VirtualBox results in corrupted text and the waterfall that doesn't look very close to the waterfall when running fldigi native. This is using a SignaLink USB via the Mac's USB port. I've tried all available USB settings in VirtualBox with no difference. I don't...
Anybody have any idea what can be done about this? Digital modes are completely unuseable in a VirtualBox VM, yet work fine as native (on MacOSX).
I figured out how to add desktop icons using idesk. Works pretty well although limited... haven't found an easy way to sort the icons alphabetically by name or anything like that, for example. If anyone is interested, follow up on this thread and I'll summarize what I've done. Rick WA1RKT
I reverted back to the default "ubuntu" account in case I had messed something up in my own space, and it's still stuck on 1600x834 unless I set full screen.
Hmmm... still a little weird. Somehow, when I'm NOT in full-screen mode, the VM's display gets stuck on 1600x834. I right click on the desktop and select System->Screen Resolution, then select 1400x1050 then Apply and Save, and it re-sizes to 1400x1050 like I asked.. I then go back to Full Screen mode (Host-F) and I get the full screen just like it should. Another Host-F to get back out of Full Screen mode and it goes back to 1600x834, and not 1400-1050. It's not a big deal, I'll almost always be...
Thanks, Andy. Adding icons to the toolbar works as described. I have a vague preference for having them on the desktop but it's not a strong desire and the toolbar is OK. So far icewm is working well. Memory on my Macbook Air is limited and so I much prefer if I can restrict the VM memory to 1 GB (can't do that on Win7 or Win10, need 2GB for those). So, happy to stick with whatever desktop manager will allow that. Rick WA1RKT
Thanks, Andy. It's a minor issue, easily fixed as you described.
Yup, that worked, Andy, thanks. Another thing that helped was upgrading VirtualBox from version 5.x to 6.0.14. :-) Rick WA1RKT
Anyone know the correct way to add desktop shortcuts in AHRL? I Google'd it and tried a few ways that didn't workk (no Nautilus, and installing Nautilus didn't work; and no Desktop folder in the user space). I know how to do it in Red Hat-ish distros (copy the .desktop file to Desktop) but while there are plenty of .desktop files in /usr/share/applications, there isn't a Desktop folder in user space to copy them to, and adding one doesn't work. Searching through this forum didn't help. Thanks......
Good morning, Richard. Yes, I know it was a while ago. But, it seems that while not a big deal, the issue is still present. Rick WA1RKT
Is there a special trick to subscribing to a topic in this forum so that I can get email alerts when new stuff is posted? I click on the little box next to the topic title, then when I reload the page my tick mark is gone. Likewise if I click "Subscribe to this topic" in the discussion, when I exit the discussion and go back to the topics page my tick mark is gone. It seems the only way I can subscribe to something is if I created the topic or added a posting to it. If I want to just monitor a discussion...
Same thing happened to me on a recent (last few days) install of the latest release to the hard drive (actually VBox VM). I established my account then on reboot (and I did remove the live medium first), my account was gone. Just a minor inconvenience, I easily re-established my account, but wanted to let you know that Richard (or whoever it was) wasn't the only one. Rick WA1RKT
Tried "sudo apt-get update" and "sudo apt-get upgrade" as suggested by Andy in another thread on a different topic. Very little was changed by the update but lots and lots of stuff were changed by the upgrade. But, made no difference, this problem persists. Rick WA1RKT
Good morning, Jeff. I found the same problem and the same solution. As you have seen, resolv.conf includes a warning against editing the file by hand, says it will be overwritten by resolvconf (utility or script). However on AHRL there is apparently no resolvconf (say "which resolvconf", as a user or root, and nothing comes back). So far my changes to resolv.conf have not been overwritten so I'm assuming it's safe and persistent until shown otherwise. Rick WA1RKT Londonderry, NH Catch me on 14.300...
I'm running VirtualBox on a Macbook Air / OSX High Sierra with four virtual machines, Win10, Win7, WinXP, and Andy's Ham Radio Linux (only running one at a time). Sound device is a SignaLink USB. I am unable to get fldigi to properly decode an incoming signal, on any of the VMs. I can run fldigi as a Mac OSX native application and it works fine. Switching over to the VM and trying to receive the same signal does not work. The waterfall doesn't look the same, and the text window displays gibberish....
Running AHRL as a VirtualBox guest on a Mac host. How do I get the VM to run full screen? I select full screen and it appears to go into full-screen mode but the actual desktop stays the same size (currently 1280x1024 on a 1600x1200 display). I have three other VMs in that installation, one each for WinXP, Win7, and Win10. All of them run full-screen as expected. I have updated VirtualBox Guest Additions to the version that matches my VirtualBox installation and that didn't do any good. I can work...
