    And I still get the same message: libtool: link: ( cd ".libs" && rm -f "libnco.la" && ln -s "../libnco.la" "libnco.la" ) /bin/sh ../../libtool --tag=CXX --tag=CC --mode=link icc -g -O2 -fopenmp -std=c99 -std=c99 -D_BSD_SOURCE -D_POSIX_SOURCE -L/work/00434/eijkhout/netcdf4/installation-4.7.4-intel/lib -lnetcdf -L/work/00434/eijkhout/netcdf4/installation-4.7.4-intel/lib -L/work/00434/eijkhout/antlr/installation-2.7.7-intel/lib -L/home1/apps/intel19/udunits/2.2.26/lib -o ncatted ncatted.o libnco.la...

    Bizarrely it seems I need to configure netcdf with --disable-netcdf-4 otherwise I get an error on hdf5: checking for hdf5.h... yes configure: error: HDF5 was not built with zlib, which is required. Rebuild HDF5 with zlib Let me know if that will get me in trouble later.

    Ok, rebuilt netcdf and now I do seem to have DAP support.} However: /work/00434/eijkhout/nco/nco-4.9.7/src/nco/ncatted.c:317: undefined reference to `nc_set_log_level' /opt/apps/gcc/8.3.0/bin/ld: ./.libs/libnco.so: undefined reference to `nc_set_chunk_cache' /opt/apps/gcc/8.3.0/bin/ld: ./.libs/libnco.so: undefined reference to `nc_get_chunk_cache' Any idea?

    Oh lord. Talk about a deceptive option. --enable-dap Build DAP-enabled NCO with netCDF-provided DAP I thought it would enable DAP, but no, it wants NetCDF to provide it...... Anyway, I removed that option, and the configure output still says: ENABLE_DAP........... no I know where libdap is: in /lib64. How do I specify that?

    What is dap-config No such thing in the NCO distribution. Anyway, I found this in the configure output: Testing for DAP-netCDF support (is DAP in libnetcdf.a?)... checking for daperror in -lnetcdf... no configure: WARNING: DAP-netCDF support through libnetcdf.a disabled (missing DAP functions) Could that be part of the problem? That I first need to (re)build netcdf with dap support?

    Still not getting there. Your error message states: ncwa: HINT: Obtain or build DAP-enabled NCO, e.g., with configure --enable-dap-netcdf .. but if I configure (i've switched from CMake to configure) I get: configure: WARNING: unrecognized options: --enable-dap-netcdf

    That at least gives a different error message: [staff nco:73] ldd ./installation-4.9.7-intel/ncwa | grep dap libldap-2.4.so.2 => /lib64/libldap-2.4.so.2 (0x00002b8cc63d6000) [staff nco:74] ./installation-4.9.7-intel/ncwa -O -C -a lat,lon,time -d lon,-10.,10. -d lat,-10.,10. http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/thredds/dodsC/Datasets/ncep.reanalysis.dailyavgs/surface/pres.sfc.1969.nc ~/foo.nc ncwa: INFO DAP-access to http://www.esrl.noaa.gov/psd/thredds/dodsC/Datasets/ncep.reanalysis.dailyavgs/surface/pres.sfc.1969.nc...
