hello - i have been running webmin on two RockyLinux servers, and each seems to "lose" the csf module. this has happened often enough that i have the [re]installation memorized. has anybody else noticed this? its very minor, buti felt worth mentioning. i have never observed this issue before i started using RockyLinux. side-note: i realize supporting RL is new, and no doubt it will take some time to fully support it. although i am not sure if this is an RL issue or not.

actually i had moved port 22 to a different location years ago, and so had set the PORTS_sshd directive accordingly. however, this morning when i reset it back to 22 and followed your instructions, everything works just as expected! THANK YOU SO MUCH! kinda strange - i should think that changing the port number back to the original value would not have fixed it. maybe i will play around with it a bit more & confirm. but either way, i am most grateful to you.

finally, went into /etc/sysconfig/iptables and added: -I INPUT 1 -p tcp --dport 10000 -j ACCEPT this seems to have fixed it.
this seemed to fix it: iptables -I INPUT 1 -p tcp --dport 10000 -j ACCEPT ; perhaps this needs to be done at reboot...

DAMN - for some reason my vpn ip ## is (was) being blocked this morning. once again, sorry to raise such a silly issue.
scratch that, SORRY - webmin is now working fine on the current server, but not accepting connections on the new server.
hi - i am running webmin/virtualmin on two different servers. this morning i cannot connect with either one. i tried disabling firewall, stop/start etc. it seems odd that i have this issue on two separate servers at the same time. last night i did receive this email: An update to usermin from 1.803-1 to 1.810-1 is available. An update to wbm-virtual-server from 6.12.gpl-1 to 6.13.gpl-1 is available. An update to webmin from 1.955-1 to 1.960-1 is available. Updates can be installed at https://MYSERVER:10000/package-updates/...

ok i THINK i figured this out - the trick so it seems is to let virtualmin do the MariaDB installation. dnf remove --assumeyes MariaDB-server MariaDB-client ; then run the ./install.sh script. and me being the extraordinarily nice and patient guy that i am, i will run through all several more times, on 10.3,4 and 5.... EDIT: running through all the steps yet again (and again and again) to see if i can indeed duplicate the results.

Iila - you said: Yes, by going to Webmin/Webmin Users page, and later clicking on the user you would want to change. yet i am still not seeing the username "admin" in prior installations, i do not remember having to manually create one. what is the best way to create the "admin" user? i tried clicking on the "create new user" but i do not see anyplace to give the new user all the special permissions. please advise.

thanks. could you please include instructions on how to do this with webmin-users? also, am i wrong that the admin used to be created by default? i will probably start over since i have accidentally "discovered" an incompatibliity with Mariadb-c-connector and 10.5....
ok this seemed to fix it. i dont ever remember having to manually create an admin user. my steps: 1) copy/paste "root" line and change to: admin:x:0 in /etc/webmin/miniserv.users 2) copy/paste "root" line and change admin to root in /etc/webmin/webmin.acl 3) /usr/libexec/webmin/changepass.pl /etc/webmin admin iLoveVirtualminWebmin ; 4) systemctl restart webmin.service perhaps i skipped over an important question in the installation?

hello - on previous webmin/virtualmin installations i used to be able to log in using "admin" as my username. (i forget what we did about the password). now it appears the only way to log in successfully is to use "root" username and the root password. also, when i look at the list of users, i do see "adm" - should i use that to log in? or do i need to actaully create an "admin" user? trying this, i do not see a way to grant this user webmin/virtualmin administrative privileges. i strongly prefer...
my bad - somehow i managed to install a Mariadb 10.3 and a Mariadb 10.4 but this solved my problem. my second question - is there a way to make sure my donation went through.

is php-addressBook still maintained? i notice its still using php mysqli vs php-pdo and and a number of the mysqli_query() calls are not using the database connection, which i thought was a requirement. also, is mysqli in dange of being deprecated in php-7? if this is not maintained anymore, is there a recommended newer one? Thank you, Mark Edwards
do i need to have CPAN installed before installing webmin? also, is there any thoughts of migrating webmin/virtualmin to another language?

ππππππππππ personally, i like to use "mysqldump" when migrating a database. at least that way it tends to fix any hidden issues (although recently i had a mysqldump script with an error, surprinsingly)
thanks - does this apply to some sort of master database for webmin/virtualmin? i never used webmin to create any databases, but did all this manually. note: i plan on migrating servers soon and will start with a nice CLEAN install of webmin/virtualmin. hello - i manually changed my mariadb root password, and now webmin cannot connect anymore. is there a confile file somewhere that contains this information that needs to be manually edited? or does webmin/virtualmin have its own username/password? its been several years since i set this up and do not remember, maybe i accidentally just used the mariadb root username/password... i forget.
