Yes it is. As part of their usual 'Apple knows best' approach, since OS X 10.8 non-interative accounts (those prefixed with an underscore) are blindly deleted as part of OS version upgrade, hence the account my installer creates so that Privoxy can drop privileges at runtime is removed. As per this ticket, the workaround is to uninstall/reinstall Privoxy to have it recreated. I prefer this over using an interactive account, since then 'privoxy' would appear as an option on the login screen. Ian On...
Thank you. The reason it is relevant is that Apple made a change to the operating system between 10.8 and 10.9 that subtly broke the account and group that Privoxy runs as, which for some time was a prime cause of Privoxy not working on macOS for those who had it previously installed. This is why it is an early troubleshooting question. Since you installed Privoxy for the first time only on Ventura, this is not the cause of your issue. Next steps : could you provide the installation log file. You'll...
Ok cool, And did this laptop have earlier releases of macOS? As early as 10.9? Mac Ventura - nothing
Hi LambdaEnt, Sorry for not replying sooner - it seems we no longer get notifications from SourceForge when new tickets are raised. Could you confirm that you installed Privoxy using our installer downloaded either here from SourceForge or via www.privoxy.org? This will enable me to set certain assumptions in place. Also, you state that you already uninstalled Privoxy - did you use the provided uninstaller to do that or did you simply delete the folder from Applications? Looking forward to assisting...
Hi xulang, I am guessing you have upgraded OS X over time and are installing this latest version of Privoxy on top of a previous install. If I am correct, the issue relates to a change in OS X relating to daemon accounts (those whose name is prefixed with an underscore). This change was improperly implemented by Apple, meaning that any daemon accounts present that were not created by Apple will be invisibly disabled; they appear to exist yet cannot be used. The solution is to use the uninstall.command...
