For this topic, it's best to discuss via private email, rather than to have it posted here in the SourceForge discussion forums. In the KJPBS, go to Help->About (or press F1) to bring up the "About" dialog. On that dialog, click the "License" button at the bottom to bring up the "License" dialog. On that dialog, locate the URL for my personal website near the bottom where it says "Contact". Use that URL to navigate to my personal website. On my personal website, click on the "Contact" link at the...

The KJPBS code search logic isn't tied to a specific Bible translation, but legal copyrights and such prohibit supplying the data for those other translations. This tool's primary purpose is to explore the numerical patterns in the King James text and not so much a generic Bible reading/study app. Most all of these other Bible translations require licensing, and in some cases usage fees, with the copyright holders and as such isn't in the scope of design for this app. Other users have, however, taken...

Thanks for the input. What you outline for the "Fix on end-user machine" I have had posted on the purebiblesearch.com website instructions for quite a while now. And yes, Linux distros have been steadily moving away from LSB, and KJPBS has been moving away from it too. The current "official production release" of KJPBS, as posted on purebiblesearch.com, is about 12-years old now. My newer releases of KJPBS are moving away from a system-package style installer, which used LSB to meet system package...

Correct. The pre-production alpha snapshot versions of KJPBS are posted on GitHub instead of SourceForge. Here's the link where they can be downloaded: https://github.com/dewhisna/KingJamesPureBibleSearch/releases As of this posting, the latest snapshot was two days ago on 2025-06-28. You can also check the exact version of KJPBS you are using from the "About Box" in the app. Alpha snapshots will be labeled with something like "v3.0-1358-g03692d23", which means 1358 code commits past the v3.0 tagged...

If you get too lost and confused on figuring out how to run KJVDataDump, go to my personal website (dewtronics.com) and click the "Contact" option in the menu. Use that to send me a private email message and I'll send you a text file with the italic words extracted.

  • Donna Whisnant Donna Whisnant posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

Well, the main KJPBS app itself does not, mainly because of how the italicized words are stored and processed. The "italicized words", which are technically known as "translation added/changed" words, are done via markup in the per-verse templates of KJPBS and aren't otherwise delineated. KJPBS doesn't have the actual human-readable Bible text, but instead has a list of all unique words and their numeric position within the text. Each verse has a template that tells it how to take that list of words...

  • Donna Whisnant Donna Whisnant posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

No, it's correct. Those occurrences are of a different word. In those verses, the word is "fool's". It all comes down to the definition of "what is a word". In order to search "fool" and "fool's" independently, they are considered separate words. You'll notice in the drop list when you are entering words, when you type "fool" and look in the drop list, you'll see "fool's" also in that list -- because it's a different word to the tool. If you want to include both words in your search enter it as:...

Sorry to hear that you are struggling with the KJPBS software. I'm sure any limitations are from my lack of knowledge and experience with making apps more accessible for the visually impaired, but it wasn't for lack of trying. I did research how to make it more accessible and everything pointed toward making the app fully navigable via keyboard so that keyboard wedge devices, like braille interfaces, can fully interact with and control the app. This I did, along with adding tool-tips and labels on...

Try launching your "System Settings". Find the "Privacy & Security" settings. Make sure under "Security", you have enabled Apps from "App store and identified developers" (usually the second option), since KJPBS isn't in the App Store it will be an "identified developer" type app. Also, make sure you do NOT have "Lockdown mode" enabled (which is another option there under Security). And, while on that settings page, look through every setting and item listed and see if there are any entries related...

I'm not sure why it would suddenly ask when it hasn't before unless you've done some update on your Mac or changed some system setting. I don't use a Mac, so I don't know what system updates might have changed things recently. Most likely, you'll need to go into your system settings where it remembers your setting (which you set when you selected "don't allow") and change that. KJPBS does need to access some external files on your system -- things like the User Notes database file where things like...

This is the first report I've heard of any such issues. I also cannot reproduce your problem. That search file loads fine and saves fine here on my computer. It's kind of a strange search file, in the search phrases that it contains, but that has nothing to do with the app or the issue you are reporting. You also didn't indicate what operating system you are using nor what specific version of KJPBS you are using nor how you have it installed (such as direct installation vs portable drive image, etc)....

I really don't know. Given you said the error message referenced "github Pages", it most certainly has to be Clayton's mobile app that you were using instead of KJPBS, since none of KJPBS is hosted on GitHub Pages. The source code for KJPBS is on GitHub, but nothing on the "GitHub Pages", which is their webserver for hosting pages for projects. As far as I know, the internal structure of his app is the same, so if you had bookmarks, you might can manually edit the bookmarks to change the base URL...

There isn't actually an Android version of KJPBS itself. There is the online version of KJPBS known as the WebChannel version which you can access while online. It's accessible via this link: https://webchannel.purebiblesearch.com/ And Clayton Carney wrote a 3rd Party Bible search app based on KJPBS technology. It's not KJPBS, but it works very similarly. It can actually be installed on mobile devices and used offline as well as online. The link for it is: https://kjv.1-john-419.org/ It's possible...

Because there's also all caps: "GOD" that appears 310 times. 57+310+4077=4444. And the number of verses don't add up because some of them are found in the same verse, so there's an overlap on the verse counts. I really don't think you'll find any errors in the counts, or at least I'd be very very surprised. The reason is that it's self-checking. The Bible text as you read it doesn't even exist in the software in that human readable form. All the software has is the list of unique words and the index...

Hmm, probably some weird quirk. Anyway, you should fork the darcula repository on GitHub and create a new branch for KJPBS settings and check in your .css file there and set your new branch to be the default branch for your fork (to make it easier for people to find). Then send me a link to your fork and I can post that link on the KJPBS website for others who are interested. You could do it here on SourceForge too, but since darcula is on GitHub, instead of just forking it, you'd need to push a...

For the selected items in the search results, I think it's QTreeView::item:selected for all QTreeView classes or CSearchResultsTreeView::item:selected. So you should be able to use something like: QTreeView::item:selected { background:#3c3f41; } OR CSearchResultsTreeView::item:selected { background:#3c3f41; } The cross references and such in the scripture browser are done as links in the QTextBrowser/QTextEdit control. These should be the link and link-visited color palette entries. See https://doc.qt.io/qt-5/stylesheet-reference.html....

Looks pretty good, except there seems to be something weird with the highlighter tools going on. Or maybe it's just the mode things were in with your screen capture? I don't know. I would have expected either all four highlighter tools to be "grayed out" (i.e. if the scripture browser doesn't have focus) or all to be enabled. But it looks like one tool is enabled (as a light green color) and the others not. It just looks peculiar. Those are direct drawn in the code and should override the stylesheet...

Your latest screenshot is looking pretty darn good. When you are all done with this, if you start a GitHub repo for it (or fork the darcula one, create your own branch, and commit your KJPBS specific changes on that branch), I can link it on my KJPBS website in case other people want to use it. As for the class names in the code, look through the main KJPBS source code in the programs/KJVCanOpener subfolder. If you are wondering about the "Can Opener" part of it, that was an inside joke with Pastor...

That's looking pretty good there. I only see a few slight issues -- like you are missing the little arrows on the "Search Within" items that show whether or not an entry is expanded, which is interesting because I think it's the same graphic that I'm using for the arrow on the "Show Matching Words/Phrases" on the search phrases, and it's working fine there. And I see some small "glitches" from my code -- like the little blue drop-arrow on the search phrases should be centered vertically in the search...

  • Donna Whisnant Donna Whisnant posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

Yeah, I don't know why I forgot about the stylesheet method to begin with -- after all, that's what I'm using internally for setting the colors for the dialog elements like the scripture browser. Plus, I put special code in the main startup code specifically to load/set it from that special Qt command-line option. Most things are settable via a stylesheet. The plugins, though, give you even more knobs to turn and adjust and completely change how dialog elements are even drawn, but is overkill for...

  • Donna Whisnant Donna Whisnant posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

Jonathan -- I just found an even easier way to do it and create something closer to what you are after. You can use a stylesheet instead of a style plugin (I had forgotten that Qt allows for both). I just found this "dark theme" style sheet for Qt Creator called Darcula: https://github.com/mervick/Qt-Creator-Darcula And if you clone that repo and copy the content to the app subfolder of the KJPBS installation folder (or specifically you need the imagessubfolder, the .xml files, and the .css files),...

And Jonathan, I did just now compile and try out the adwaita style plugin that I had linked above, and it works, but as it is, I don't think it's going to give you the "dark theme" that you are after (see attached image of KJPBS with it loaded. This image is on Xubuntu Linux 18.04 with the current master branch on Qt 5.14.1). It looks more like the first pic on the adwaita-qt readme page. I thought this was going to be more of a "dark theme" but it's not -- it's more GNOMEish instead. I think their...

  • Donna Whisnant Donna Whisnant posted a comment on discussion General Discussion

Ah, I see what you are after. In order to change the entire style, you'll need to create a Qt Style plugin, similar to this Dark Theme style that I found via a search: https://github.com/FedoraQt/adwaita-qt You'll need to build the plugin with the same version of Qt and compiler as the app. Then just copy the resulting plugin into the plugins/styles/ subfolder in the KJPBS installation directory and run KJPBS by passing -style <stylename> where <stylename> is the name of your plugin. For the one...

Hi Scott, I'm not 100% certain I understand what you mean by a "flatpak". If you mean just a set of files to run without the installer script so that you can bypass the check for LSB, you can try the Portable Drive Images at http://www.purebiblesearch.com/. Those don't have to be "installed" -- just unzipped and run. Or you can simply extract the content out of the normal Linux installers.
