Hello. Finally today (no classes) I had the opportunity to run some tests with no pressure. I've found these HP Pro Tower 400 G9 will boot, if instead using my existing DHCP server, I select the option for Clonezilla to "start-new-dhcpd". Now I can also use "auto-detect", as in my other labs and I'll explain why, if you have the time ;) This allowed me to run a few more tests and finally understand how my all other client PCs were able to find Clonezilla session, despite there was no information...

Thanks for the reply. Those papers were exactly what I was looking for! I wanted to know a bit more about how the systems works. Thanks. Yes, one lab at the time, same vlan, static entries for DHCP clients. What I find confusing, is that many years ago, when I used Symantec Ghost, I had an entry for "bootptab" server and another for file. Nowadays, because the server can be any PC, I don't need anything of that, but the clients are always able to find the server, which is good, but at the moment...

I don't think you understand. It is working as I described (for several years). I do one lab at a time because every lab has a different image, but I don't have to change anything on my DHCP server. Basically, I just move to another lab, boot one of those PCs to act as a Lite Server and it works. I am just curious to know how. Thanks

Hi. let's say that in lab 1 I use one PC (I previously used the name "original", where I created the original image and therefore there's no need to dump the image for it). When the other PCs boot in PXE mode, my DHCP server, which is the same for every lab, has static IP mappings according to mac address. How the PXE clients find the Clonezilla Lite server? When I go to lab 2, the same process. I use one PC there as lite server, the DHCP server provides IP, but how do the clients find the Clonezilla...

Hi! Clonezilla live provides me flexibility to use any PC as a Lite Server. Usually, for convenience, this is process I use to clone my labs: -Install all software on a PC - let us call it "original" -Create an image of "original" on a shared filesystem. -Copy that image to "original" itself (same vlan and network equipment; limits multicast/broadcast issues) -Boot "original" with Clonezilla Live USB and set it up to act as a lite server, using existing DHCP server. -Boot all clients via PXE and...

yes, i had to create additional USB sticks to deploy 4 at the same time. Very time consuming. When I found why these HP aren't booting I'll let you know. Thanks.
