I recently had need to apply this patch to V0.10.1 and found it quite difficult. However, I did succeed and you can find my notes on the process on my website. The version of LIRC in the Pi respository is still at this version, hence the need. I hope someone finds this useful. I feel that when someone succeeds in fixing a problem it's of little help saying they succeeded without saying how!
